No your sprites can be any size you want and whatever filesize you need. When the art is bigger just make a seperate preview file for it that is small in file size which you upload to the first panel and the regular actual art on the second panel.
I tried making the canvas smaller and removing one color (The hair highlight) to try and reduce size, but the file is BARELY too big. (10.6KB) So, I'll just remember to limit myself in future sprites. Still, thanks for the input.

The hair highlight color is not working at all.
fyi, for pixels to show on the front page you need a preview file under 10k. This is why its added but not showing on the main front page.
