Yikes! SelOut is, imo, the hardest pixel technique because it often goes wrong even for the most seasoned. Some prefer to do color outlines instead but I think it may be wrong for this piece but a mix could work too. The simplest and best example of great SelOut is any Pokemon Gameboy game.
See cure's pixelart thread and see the last 2 posts. The general concept is to color edges so that it both AAs and define without standing out at all and even 'suggesting' pixels not there.
Of interest, Johanvinet made a C+H pixel and used some AA and dithering of all things to very effectively pixel the C+H style.

Nothing beat C+H for me so I love it for that.
If ever there was a pixel screaming for SelOut or at least AA its this.
