first version of loom uses EGA. It was remade with VGA graphics shortly after.
I've played most of the games on that list, and they all seem to me, to be using the same 16 colours. The 64 in the machine palette... I don't think I've ever seen them. That's what's mystifying.
Did a quick search for you: http://members.chello.at/theodor.lauppert/games/ega.htm You can click on a Game's title to view a/some screenshot/s (in most cases) as well as some info. The first few games don't have screenies however. Start at Ultima IV.
After clicking on a title, be sure to check the box at the top of the page to check what graphics mode it uses. For instance, Loom uses VGA, and not EGA.
Yeah more or less windows 3.0 started with EGA, but I'm mainly using it because of gaming nostalgia, old sierra AGI or SCI games like Quest for Glory 1 and 2, or Space Quest 1. If the machine palette is 64 colours, I've never seen them being used. I've only seen the standard 16 colours, so I always assumed EGA was just those. Does anyone have a complete rundown of the colours, and maybe apps or games that used unorthodox EGA modes?
Badassbill, the EGA palette "is just colours". Don't ignorantly assume you're right without even checking what EGA is. EGA was the palette Windows 3.1 used, and supported 16 colors out of a total of 64 at a resolution of either 320×200 or 640×350.
Anyway, great use of the palette Helm, instantly knew this was yours when I saw the thumbnail. Odd location for a house like that... +5 from me.
Damn! what a coincidence, I was just making this poster today using the CGA pallette :D anyway, amazing work. it's unbelievable what variation could be reached with only 16 colors...
I don't know what the EGA pallette is, but it was the pallette that intrigued me. I looks a lot like the MS Paint pallette. I think the darkish blues near the bottom of the front side of the building confuse the lightsource a little bit and make the building a bit undefined.
