This is my little Hazreddigger. She's (yes, thats a Lady) infected with a nasty crystaline virus. An Animated version can be found at this Location: http://www.deviantart.com/view/20579803/

This is just amazing!!!!

Shoba (Level 1 Jukyu) at 1/3/2008 7:28:34 AM
And that's the reason why I didn't post the animated version here. It has not pixeled, it was generated via a very buggy Tool I wrote myself. And that tool simply used some nearest neighbour algorithm for rotating, so that is the reason why it looks the way it looks (kinda like the bigger enemies in the newer Castlevania 2D Games).

Morgengrauen (Level 2 Quiet One) at 12/13/2007 12:22:18 PM
the animation looks very good, but has a few minor issues. the toes aren't moving a little when in the air. and the way how you realized the moving of the rear crystals, is - sorry - ugly. one can see very good what pixel line is shifted up and down.

thats way cool! very good job!

Na, the main reason why I stopped working on the 2D Mesh Editor is because I am a lazy bum. The tool was way to complicated in concept and writing the whole thing in Gamemaker didn't really help the performance problems. I should have started this whole thing in C# or something like this. Afterwards I realised, that Flash has pretty much the same functionality and more. And since my job takes more time, I can hardly work on those project any more.

I did work on a newer bigger version of the Hazzreddigger, the Hazredqueen (now with a working lightsource and stuff :3), but it far from being finished (for about a year....).

There are some priority/depth-of-field issues, unfortunately. Rather clearly indicated by the fact that it took me 45 seconds to find the head.

Re: the lightsource issue: it doesn't look like it's crystal-lit because the highlights aren't blue enough.
I think you are being tempted here to draw more detail than you could plausibly see. This could be a really dramatic looking piece, if you make yourself stick to plausible lighting. The way this could work with animation, is by cutting down the radius of each light source so they would still look correct during animation.

re: the 2d mesh animator: have you stopped this project because you're using something more  general now (like Blender)?

Lastly, great style and patterning, patterning is something that's rarely given such a thoughtful treatment in pixel art as you have done here.

nice unique style ...

Setzer (Level 8 Cannibal) at 2/15/2007 3:38:28 AM
really nice, the colors rock, the animation is awesome, yeah.

Blackbeltdude (Level 2 Kukyu) at 6/14/2006 8:19:14 PM
Even though you animated with a tool, it's still one of the best animations I've ever seen! And damn! What a design! You've got a heck of an imagination!

E-Magination (Level 3 Sniper) at 6/14/2006 8:59:13 AM

Awesome and lightsourceless!

The animation is not really pixelwork, since I animated it with a tool.

7even (Level 7 Assassin) at 3/7/2006 5:32:03 AM

I've found you and your mighty Hazreddigger!

But I ask why didn't you post the animated one? Anyway, as now I have the posibility, this one will go to my favourites.

mutantenemy (Level 5 Serial Killer) at 3/3/2006 5:46:16 AM
now that is some high quality pixel art there!

Shoba (Level 1 Jukyu) at 2/16/2006 7:31:01 AM
Hmm... I kinda thought the new Tyrant Guard look kinda like my Hazreddigger when I saw them first. The nids had some influence in her final design but a major influence was one of the Monster Transformations of Shadow Hearts 2.

Adarias (Level 7 Colonel) at 2/16/2006 5:59:20 AM

Makes me think of a Tyranid Carnifex, but missing a pair of arms.  Of course, looking like a warhammer monster isnt always a bad thing ;)

The light is confusing, but i dont really give a ^%$ especially since its being like by light relfecting off the walls from itself

blindfalcon (Level 1 Rookie) at 2/14/2006 7:47:31 AM
inconsistent yes, sloppy, no way. taken in context a creature in total darkness could obviously  recieve light from any and all directions it was supplied. ( what we seem to have here is a failure to communicate )

Shoba (Level 1 Jukyu) at 2/14/2006 12:29:24 AM
Good question. Where is the lightsource. A simple answere, she is her own Lightsource. In the Game she was supposed to appear in a total dark room. The only light source would be her Crystals on the Back and on her Legs and Arms unless the hero found a lightsource first (which will not BE the case, since the quest to optain the lightsource is to defeat the hazreddigger first :3).  This would have kinda looked like this:

http://www.shoba.at/images/Hazreddigger_glow.png

Maybe even a little bit darker.

Blick (Level 6 Commander) at 2/13/2006 7:21:44 PM
It looks sloppy and inconsistent as it is.

Delko (Level 1 Thug) at 2/13/2006 6:14:17 PM
Who cares about a lightsource, looks good as it is.

Souly (Level 4 Murderer) at 2/13/2006 12:37:26 PM
Looks great but you really have to pick a lightsource.

Inlagd Sill (Level 1 Quiet One) at 2/13/2006 12:13:29 PM
This is BIG and GOOD. And it surely took a lot of work, so there was no hurry to make the lights better! However as an in-game-sprite this wouldn't be a big deal.

Faktablad (Level 6 SWAT) at 2/13/2006 10:53:46 AM
Where is your lightsource!?

Evil-Ville (Level 1 Thug) at 2/13/2006 8:35:55 AM
Looks like something straight out of a metroid game, bloody amazing.

Filax_666 (Level 6 Hitman) at 2/13/2006 8:06:30 AM

This is realy great! The animation is good overall, but some places look weird...it doens´t seem to have a well-defined lightsource too...but it´s realy neat!

Blick (Level 6 Commander) at 2/13/2006 8:02:40 AM
Where is your lightsource!?
