I only had a couple of them way back (we were more into city and castle), but they were mostly not just split but with small pieces broken and missing too.

I don't know where the LEGO movie got that, I have dozens of LEGO space minifigs from the mid to late 70s and none of them have a split in the helmet... it's a smear campaign.  Poor little Space minifgis... :(

This is fake. Every space minifig had a broken chinstrap.

Pretty awesome, PJ should totally do a lego themed weekly challenge.

Though the airtank would make his head be a little bit more elevated than usual, I still think that maybe it might look better if it was put down 1 or 2 pixels. Still a great representation of the real thing.

The neck on the spacemen were taller because of the loop on their airtanks lifting the head up, it looks just as weird in real life.  Thanks for the compliment, this is a piece that represents childhood happiness to me 

The neck area seems a smidge tall but this is a lovely rendition of the charming original lego space guys
