I wonder if something cool could be done with two scales of pixels.

It looks rather strange that you're mixing two pixel scales. Is there a purpose to that? I think it'd look nicer and smoother if you didn't have the hair, hands and irises so blocky.

Aside from that, it looks like you're off to a good start!
