Thanks for the feedback! :) i was aware of the dark AA, and it was an attempt to make the line look thicker as somewhat of a stylistic choice. But i do see what you mean by the jaggies, i purpusfully put them in the dark areas, but it does look a bit odd on the left side as you said.and as for the AA in the left eye, I'll fix that. but man, i wasn't prepared for someone to scutinize it that much, its pretty awesome to know there are people here that are really passionate about the medium. I look forward to posting here in the future. Thanks for the great advice. :D
I think that for a first try at pixel art, this is quite good! The reuse of colour between the hair and skin shading is quite smart, and is certainly not the usual naive beginner solution :]
Some critiques:
- The colour you're using for your AA (anti-aliasing) on the skin is too dark, it contrasts with the skin tone almost as much as the lineart itself, so instead of making AA it just makes the line look thicker. I think using the slightly lighter colour would work better.
- One eye has AA, one doesn't. It's best to keep it consistent.
- There's a broken line/shadow in the hair in the right third of the image. I think it'd be best make it closed, it reads like it's unfinished.
- You have some jaggies and thick outlines in various places. Thick lines can work well in shaded areas, but you're using them even in well-lit areas like the left side of the hair. Jaggies are something that take practice and vigilance to learn to avoid while still getting the general line shape you want, so I don't know what advice to give other than "watch out for them".
This is so well done! i dont know why would you cry.
