Good point Hapiel! So I went to check on youtube the recoil for a pistol.
As it turns out, the body doesn't move when you shoot a small pistol. I might have gone overboard with the recoil here.
I'm no expert in firearms however.
I like it already :). But you fix everything?
How about involving his whole body in the shooting action? ;)
If you want feedback, it's best to make a WIP thread on the forum. The gallery is meant for finished pieces, so you're less likely to get feedback here.
If you're physically weak and/or inexperienced, then even a 9mm can make you stagger backwards a little. If you're a physically strong person who is experienced with guns, then you know how to position your arms to minimise the recoil, there would be only a small upward motion (about half of what you have here). It'd also look boring, and unsatisfying to a player who probably wants to feel like their bullet is more than a spitball xP If this is a gun the player is expected to use a lot, then perhaps it should be a slightly larger one that "justifies" the recoil, and perhaps even a little more body motion.
One thing in particular I recommend, no matter what sort of gun it's meant to be, is a more appropriate shooting stance. With the legs so close together and the body looking stuff and completely upright, even a puny gun can send one off-balance.
