I've been working on this piece for about a month on and off and wow am I glad to have finally finished it. It's going to be a really late Christmas present, so I'm going to blow up the image and have it printed on a poster.

Here is a real cuttlefish for your reference.

I'd like to know your thoughts on the pixelling of the tentacles, it did get kind of messy there so any suggestions would be appreciated.

I used this piece as a reference for the underwater effect.

Edit: added some plants, moved the cuttlefish down and pushed a few more pixels

This is such a calm and wonderful piece. I love cuttlefish, and you definitely captured their graceful whimsy. Great job.

Thanks for the critique. I had a feeling that something was weird compositionally, but I wasn't sure quite what was wrong. I'll see if I can move a few things around to make it better.

I have some issues with the lightsource. From a composition viewpoint, to have a bright focal point right above (and partially touching) another focal point which is more muted and further down (the cuttlefish) doesn't feel right.

Also, if the lightsource is behind the cuttlefish, I'd assume there would be a strong silhouette and edge-lit effect to it so that the details would be difficult to see, rather than clearly presented.

It is a lovely piece, though.

It's the coral that I'm a big fan of.
