I'm mostly put off by the lack of dark colors and odd close pairing of the yellow, red & greens. I figured you might have meant "different" or "a nice change" from some other palettes rather than "versatile". But the more limited a palette is...the more fun it is to see what people can do with it!
"how do the words "suck" and "blow" manage to BOTH be sexist at the same time"
They aren't...but I knew who I was talking to! :D
Ok I'm not a master of color, like you, I've been totally reading up on your thoughts on palettes, I can't even understand half of it or how you "unify" and "equalize" and all that good stuff (have I missed a comprehensive tutorial by you, somewhere?).
I didn't mean to offend your sensibilities by calling this versatile ^-^
But I mean, I grew up with a c64, this palette is super-appealing to me, it's purple-heavy and dead-looking in a good way. Provided I don't want to do anything too realistic with it. Fauvism and demoscene is fine too, I haven't explored that at all!
(Btw how do the words "suck" and "blow" manage to BOTH be sexist at the same time, damn, language really is hard.)
Yeah, versatile as in it can both suck and blow at the same time! :D
Well, you do squeeze some decency out of it here.
"They aren't...but I knew who I was talking to! :D"
of course they are. They're meant as insults, when their literal meaning is just oral sex on a cock. Oral sex on a cock is *not* in itself bad. Therefore using that as a slur denotes that someone/thing that performs a blowjob is inferior because of the sex act they perform. Therefore, having one's cock sucked is cool, but sucking a cock or blowing on a cock is bad. It's a put down based on the misconception that cocks are dominating and oral sex on cocks is servitude or punishment. Which is sexist, since sucking OR blowing on a cock is absolutely neutral. Although I don't know from experience.
Same as "cocksucker". The literal meaning is so cute and useful. I love the word! The way it's used is totally sexist.
Granted, words tend to lose their original meaning, but these two haven't, hence all the sexist jokes derived thereof. If you doubt this line of argument, Urban Dictionary is your friend!
Since we're examining exact meanings of words, I have to also say that you're completely correct, it's not a versatile palette. I guess I should say different or fun:D
By the way, do you have any tips on creating a versatile base palette for a whole game? I was thinking of smooshing together the Amiga 32-color palette and the NES palette and only add colors to them when I have to.
Is that a bad starting point? Should I start off with your 32 palette? Color choice is so hard for me, and I don't even know how to practice. Have you devised exercises? A workbook? :D
