At the time of that comment it was not a character select screen.
@HZoltan, A character selection screen is prt of a game so its technically a mockup.
The NES uses palettes in 8x8 tiles. I'm not terribly versed in this stuff, but I think by making these palettes the way they are it uses less sprites (as overlapping sprites would be the only way to achieve those palettes otherwise, I think), and only so many sprites can be in a row at a time before flicker happens. It's just conservative use of the layers.
Oh, I see it, looking back at them. I think the green just stands out a little more. Is there a reason for doing this? Like, to make it more like the way things were set up on the NES? Sorry if that's a stupid question! I'm still slightly new to this stuff.
All of them have a bit of green/yellow spilling onto their eggs. It's just how I set up the palettes.
I love them all! They're so cute! Especially the ugly one and the creepy no-eyed one.
Also, the ugly one has some green spilling over on his egg.
I love them!
The description says: "...wants you to design a NES mock-up". How is this a mockup?
Oh, so they're chicks, right. That is what I meant. Well, I really enjoy the piece, and it is nice to have it blow my mind so much.
Well, when looking at the "Ugly Duckling" Silly Symphony, the story was of one duckling hatching among several chicks. Since the duckling was clearly the odd-one-out, I decided to have a bit of creative, somewhat subtle fun with some of the other ones.
It's very disturbing to me, because the title is the Ugly Duckling. So, I think 'Okay, and there he is on the bottom right, clear as day.' But, then when I look closer there is a duck with no eyes. What is HIS story? And then to the bottom left there is a duck with bed-room eyes, or he is exasperated by the whole idea.
One of the ducks doesn't have any eyes.
At the time of adding to the gallery I knew HZoltan would call you on it and that you would edit it
