I could never do a piece with this scale. so impressive.
Holy hell.. 11/10, would play a game just for this art.
I can't imagine how much time u spend to finish this D: great job! love it <3
The background will be visible in this form for a short period of time, once the characters will move in, the supporting black gradient like in the first animation will get added, which leads the focus from the background dynamically to the characters, pretty much like in the other animation.
The whole thing currently works like a stage. The characters are spotlighted, while the background sets the mood. The Characters should better work on a variety of backgrounds. The assets would have to work in a lot of different cases, so you can't possibly prevent all the tiny technical inconsistencies you can solve easily in a static fine art painting. Nonetheless it should evoke the feeling of a painting, but it's game art.
if I decide to go with backgrounds instead with game graphics backgrounds for the conversations. I most probably won't even have the time to do a lot of them, so I will keep them not very specific and fitting for more than one scenario, the GBA Fire Emblem games used about 8 backgrounds throughout the whole game.
There is neither a game yet, nor a schedule/budget - so I can experiment with all those things, without need of getting them done. After work it's sometimes just nice to sit down, dream, experiment and paint a bit, working on stuff I really enjoy.
I know it's well beyond your time budget, since you're using these assets for a game, but it would have been so amazing to see the characters reflect the light source in the background. Of course, that would involve a lot of re-pixelling, it's not just a matter of applying a filter.
I have one question, btw: Is that the sunset / sunrise in the background, or is something burning in the horizon? I'm asking because I'm not quite able to make sense of the way the clouds have been shaded, if the orange is the main light source.
I love how chill Gregory seems. He's all like 'maaaaaan end of the world who cares, i've got sweet poses to strike'
I specially like the background; the frozen lake is very well done
I knew I was in for a treat when I saw the Schreibwerk brand preview
To me the focal point of this image is the sun, which draws the eyes away from the characters. Maybe this is why these characters seem to loose 3d form when compared to sketches. Cover up the sun,as an exercise, and decide for yourselves.
awesome stuff! looks really great at 3x. i'm impressed!
I'm not sure what it is but something about the way you render things makes them look flatter to me (moreso on the foreground elements; background looks great). Perhaps it's that everything has the same amount of detail, or maybe something else with the rendering of materials. I'm pretty sure you lose the 3d-ness of objects in this stage, too, because the "blue-pencil" anatomy sketches you used to post in the Daily Sketch always had great form.
It`s just AMAZING!
