I like the art, except the rainbow... but hey, awesome stuff.
@Showtime, @Theoden: Yup, yup! I completely agree. Background-to-subject recognition is something I definitely need to keep a better eye out in my future work. Your commentary is much appreciated. :')
@Slym: Thank you very much!
Rainbow is not very readable but other than that this is awesome.
This is great, but I had a really hard time reading the leprechaun because of the way the colour of the brim of his hat is the same as the bg and lines up with the outline of the tree foliage in the background... couldn't make sense of his head for the longest time!
Thank you, Manupix! Your C+C was very helpful! I did attempt the rainbow but it seems I cannot find a fix to my liking without having to edit the palette entirely... which is more work than I am willing to apply to an edit as I much rather start over from scratch. My background in general is in need of some fine tuning, haha. I am at a place of struggle in my art where I know I could take it so much further but my know-how is sorely lacking.
I have a guilty pleasure for mirrored images in all art across the board. I recognize it is bad (AKA lazy) and I definitely have some pet peeves with it myself, but my love for it currently outweighs the bad. I'm sure I'll come to loathe it by next week or sometime in the near future as it tends to go!
And thank you very much for letting me know about edits/updates on a submitted piece! I really appreciate all advice and criticism given, and while I may not apply all of it to an existing piece, it is definitely on my mind for the next one! :')
Love this!
Agree with previous crits: a nose would help tremendously; rainbows can't be darker than surrounding sky.
Also mirroring
Just so you know, you can update your submission until the deadline =)
@Friend: Yes! The intention was to be a top hat with a buckle detail. It does, unfortunately, seem a bit lost in the background, and after much fiddling, I cannot bring that focus back into the image without sacrificing yet another element. I'm basically clueless in this case. Nonetheless, thank you very much for your comments!
@Finlal: I, too, thought the rainbow looked amateurish... Despite that, though, I like the overall composition with the rainbow included. Hopefully with more practice little additions like that will present themselves better in my work! And funnily enough, I did, in fact, misread the challenge. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. :')
Everything but the rainbow looks great, but at first I thought it's not rainbow, but a swarm of wasps or something.
You can use more colors in this challenge and not only from that green palette, you know.
interesting. I cant tell whats going on with the head. Is that a hat?
This piece actually gives me an oriental vibe. I think it's the pose and the head looks like a chinese hat and just the general style. It feels more exotic and focused than perhaps what I might expect in a more western mood, such as jubilant or expansive.
Either way I enjoy the atmosphere a lot
Those clouds are neat, although I did take a while to see the face XD I think althought the rainbow isn't 100% readable it's admirable that you made i using greens, the visual illusion of other colours is really creative :D
