Thank you so much for elaborating! I'll definitely remember that for future pieces. Very much appreciated.
One important aspect of pixel art, for many people, is the precision of pixel placement. Each pixel should have a function, in a sense, and instead of quickly making a rough, uneven line, for example, you try to avoid "jaggies" and "random dithering". Many people also stress the importance of "clusters". Reading about those three terms in the tutorial will give you a common view.
You are entirely correct that it's an optional step, not a necessity. Ultimately, the pixel art community has a certain paradigm of that is considered 'proper'. If you stray too far from that paradigm, people won't want your art in the PJ gallery, for example. Especially if you use tools which some people consider "dirty", like gradients and layers with transparency. Never the less, I happily voted to have this piece added to the gallery. Making it cleaner would be my personal preference, not a necessity.
Hey thanks for the review! I'm not the most experienced or established pixel artist, so please forgive me if I ask what you mean by having the image be cleaner. Is it generally frowned upon to have redundant pixels, as in corner pixels and so on? If that is what you mean, I gotta say, I understood that as an optional step, not a necessity.
Agree with Jal. The simplicity and composition of this piece is very appealing. If only it had been a little cleaner.
