There is a lot of detail in this work that is crippled just a bit by it's limited color palette. The textures and composition is sound, though I don't get the feeling of an eery atmosphere because of the monochrome lighting.
I also agree with Tarius. It looks better dramatically if the eyes aren't close to the border.
There are some rough areas, but I absolutely love the progression from those WIP stages!!! The texture on the book is very nice.
The only thing I would change is- move the eyes of the monster-entity SLIGHTLY lower, maybe. They might be too close to the canvas border the way they are right now :)
First off, thanks a lot!
I put the eyes lower as per suggestion. What I did with the light was a big experiment for me as I'm still learning how to handle more interesting light sources, so no wonder it caused some contrast problems in the end, hahah. I chose the sepia palette to have enough room for shading this like I wanted and really understanding the light since the number of colors would be limited due to the challenge anyway, but envisioned this in waay different shades at first, too.
I'm not even sure if this is really supposed to be scary. I got the idea after a friend sent me this song: youtu.be/-G_iL6TRphg in preparation for a Cthulhu pen and paper get-together. :)
