This was a NES game idea that I had, it would be heavily “a boy and his blob” inspired. You would use Jake’s transformations to search for power ups and advance the levels, Jake would also be a weareble armor like he was once or twice in the show. Finn would play very megaman-zelda2-ish; walk, jump, slash, etc, all in 8bit goodness!

I tried to mimic the "NES feeling" using 4 colors per tileblock and 5 colors max per sprite.

Thanks to Marina and Carnivac for the tips they gave me on the colors,
I used a slightly edited version of this NES palette:

Hope you enjoy!

This is amazing on so many levels. You really retained the spirit of the NES while abandoning the more annoying things like sprite flicker.

That box art's so rad! The two together; this glorious mock-up and the box with your game production logo and all.. just blowing me away.

Seen it on Tumblr already but damn Jinn, this is like the coolest project i've seen. Absolutely love the box art and cover art of the cartridge, the pixel art is top notch aswell.

I can't believe I did not notice you doing that in that old mockup.
I always look for that in all mockups and its something of a secret weapon when I make them.
Harmony, yes but more so it gives you a sense of movement and gameplay.

This would have been the greatest game of all time! And damn, Finn can even juggle-combo enemies! And I love how everything is true to the source material.

The only thing that bugs me (and it doesn't even have anything to do with the art itself) is that you use Nintendo's name whereas you could use something more original like "Jinntendo" or "Finntendo" or something like that.

Love how that one-eyed cherry walks from one screen to another.

This is an amazing work!

@Jal: I really think it helps the overall harmony! I made it back in 2011 based on a piece of yours and I cant go back, no regrets :)

@Mandrill: I really think my usual style would not fit the restricions as well, but it was fun to change a bit, haha.

@all: Thank you very much! <3

Its all so beautiful a game for this show should be this.
I really admire the GUI used here.
This is the first time I've ever seen someone else do what I always do in mockups.
Make everything possible continue from screen to screen.

So beautiful. You just had to do the snail didn't you?

I like the Jake ladder.

Mandrill (Level 9 Vice President) @ 4/6/2015 12:48

A total departure from your usual style, but that absolutely didn't hurt the piece. It is brilliant!

Pure nostalgia, I'd play! :)

Lone Scout (Level 1 Jukyu) @ 4/6/2015 12:16

It is very impressive, capturing the spirit and the tone of the show. The animation is also fine, showing off their characters nicely.

I am enamoured with the amount of care that you put into this. It shows off spadefully.
