I love the colour scheme :D think i've found a new inspiration in my pixelling :D!
You're too kind, Mandrill. And I owe much to the guys over at Pixelation. :)
This was actually inspired by Diablo, but I suppose Warcraft and Warhammer may have influenced me as well. In regards to the dark blue shadows, I actually did have some dark purple there for a while. I usually go with dark blue or dark purple for the shadows, but I figured I'd try to do something different, based on someone's edit. I know you like to use some dark purple with really high saturation sometimes, which I like. I may experiment with that in the near future :)
Damn, the lighting in this one is out of this world! .... and dat sky!
If you take away the awesome looking statues of fantasy characters, it will look like something that was painted 100 years ago by some russian master painter! All the little detail work that has gone into the castle and backround is incredible. Not to mention the fact that this has one of the best uses of AA I've seen for a long time... so sharp!
The palette itself has very nice and strong ramps. Dark blue shadows work better imo, but that is just personal taste. The colours work damn well together. Nothing to complain about.
Strong design choices for the fantasy characters too! I really like the Warcraft/Warhammer Fantasy vibe. Looks like this world has seen nothing but war, magic and dragons for the last 200 years.
This has quality and thoughtful pixelling written all over it. Cool enough to print it out and hang it on a wall.
@helcril: Thanks, I didn't think about it in those terms. That's interesting. The artsy perspective always goes over my head, I'm afraid. I guess it's something to think about in my future work. Negative space is something I never consider. :)
@Friend: I don't care about that. For me, it's all about learning. Developing new skills. Becoming a better artist and, ultimately, a better person. Enjoying the process for its own worth. Understanding the art better. And winning trophies. Shiny trophies. Big, big trophies that somehow fill the emptiness that consumes my soul as I lay awake at night. :)
Did someone take over your account? These pixels are amazing! Great job.
Well, you must be right!
And in addition I want to say that I also like abstract composition (negative space of light sky and dark foreground subject). It is very balanced and reminds me yin-yang sign structure.
@Manupix: Thank you, that's a very good point! My inspiration for this piece was "early snow" by Dex, and I wanted to do something similar with the sky. But I forgot to take into account that my perspective is a very narrow view above the horizon, and not really far up into the sky. I don't know if I'm getting better, but I feel like the discipline of sticking with a small canvas is helping me lately. Seeing this wonderful piece by Thu showed me that I was on the wrong path before :)
@ADrawingMan: Thank you very much :)
@ helcril: Thank you kindly! Letting the houses be so dark was a compromise between my detailed version seen in the WIP and people telling me that I should avoid letting houses be too eye-catching. In terms of composition, I guess too many details in the bottom left corner would take focus away from the most important features.
@ 8 bit dreams: Thanks, I think. :)
@ Drazile: Heh, it would certain help to add a bit of cheer :)
@ Siikikala: Thanks, always nice to hear :)
@naji: Thank you :)
@Nevercreature: Thank you. That's actually the one thing I'm kind of happy with. The execution isn't as good as I would have liked, but at least there's some atmosphere :)
Your rate of improvement is exponential or something. Looking forward to seeing more :D
Hey, are you getting better with each new piece or what?
Lower sky might be a bit random for me, more horizontal textures and a hint of an horizon line would give more depth.
wow, your stuff is improving faaaast. Good job, all of these islandshave been amazing.
Love this composition, how statues lead the eye to the castle. Also I like how light touches them, and color scheme.
Though for me village and left side of the castle are not very readable (or this is just because of my shitty monitor lol). I mean maybe add a little bit more contrast there?
Great landscape piece anyway!
@Swordless: Thank you! I am very happy to have helped inspire :)
@CritiqueMyWork: You are too kind. One day, I will. :)
