I'm just about to create some character sprites for an upcoming little RPG.

Next to an elven ranger and a human mage, this is going to be the dwarfen warrior. Pretty simple concept :) Will upload the others as soon as ready.

The game plays on 480x320 pixels (preferably scaled up 1:2, so 960x640 on monitor)

So here are a few poses, i'm just starting to animate. What do you think? Changes and improvements always welcome!

Pink staff is weapon replacement, because different weapons are going to be visible on the character sprite.

9 colors on the character (+ magenta for placeholder)

Drawing with a 2x2 pen tool is bad practice imo but feel free to do whatever :p

also Thank you haha.

Well, it's not really "zoomed in", i created the sprites with a 2x2px pen tool already, so i can see how the character finally looks like. It's more the art style rather than just the "zoom". It's a huge difference if you look at a sprite at 1:1 or 1:2.

Nice avatar btw ;)

Cool sprites! Color distribution is nice and images look like the capture the character's movement and mood really well :)

I get the idea that the game is played on a 1:2 ratio but in terms of pixel art it is never recommended to submit artwork zoomed in.

Tea and wine? Hm! Now its certainly makes sense to me! Hope he is not half-elf, though!

@helcril: Oh i see ;) I agree, he's a fancy dwarf then i guess. He also drinks tea and wine instead of beer ^^

Well, I will try!  In most of sources (books, films, etc.) dwarves are stocky, heavy, muscular, have short legs and hands and are not very flexible. So their motions unlikely would look elegant, amplitude, gymnastic-like (sprites #3 and #4 looks like that for me) due to their rigid joints and stocky built. As I said before this is just my thoughs and feelings, nothing more (I'm big fan of dwarves btw  ). Your work is amazing!

@helcril: How would you define "dwarfish" then? :D Thanks for the feedback though, keep you updated about the other chars!

I like it very much. Good design, colors and style. Also I like poses themselves, they are very dynamic and cool, but imo they are not... dwarfish. I mean for me they do not fit to my dwarf movement stereotype. Just my opinion though.

Great work, can't wait to see other chars!
