Awesome! Good points, good points.
I see where I could have added another color in order to AA the bedspread; I think I was simply being stubborn with keeping my color counts down and thought I had so many blues that I didn't want to add another. However, I definitely had enough room for more colors so I probably should have.
There's definitely quite a few inconsistencies with the colored outlines now that I'm looking at it. I was also on the fence about the soda spill having an outline; good to know moving forward.
Yeah, I was unsure on using the darkest shade for the bedspread but I was again being stubborn with keeping within my own arbitrary color count. I hadn't thought of turning the darkest red into a deeper purple-color; that would definitely be a good color to AA that darkest shade with.
Thanks for the critique, I definitely think I learned some things. I'll continue working on my color choices and consistencies within the pieces I do. :)
Whenever possible talking pixels in public is best because others get to benefit too.
On the actual pixel work some of the weaknesses are the little bits of dirty bits here and there that are not awful but is something that makes all pixelart better. You see this in places like the darkest color of the bedspread where it touches the floor but there's lots af areas that are on the dirty side. 'Dirty' means where pixel jumps are not polished on the pixel level.
Another 'technicality' is that you have some things in the picture where you have chosen colored outlines (the baseball) but then others are all using the darkest shade only (the baseball bat) which is below something (can't make out what it is) that uses the same colors as the bat.
Most things use outlines and others don't and is something else to nitpick. For example, the chips have outlines but the spilled soda does not. I can see why you chose not to outline the spilled soda but when the whole art is outlined you gotta ride that wave all the way, if its a 'thing' its outlined.
You have AAd some things and then not AAd other things and some of what's AAd does not need it and what is not does. For example, the white in the bedspread is AAd but the blue is not. If its because you did not have a color then your problem is the palette.
The blue used for the planes on the wallpaper seems like a bad color choice because this color is used for AAing the shadow on the floor and it jumps out (defeating the purpose of AA). The planes could be any color so maybe 'greening' up that shade and maybe desaturating it so it works with the AAing.
The dark brown/red is a color I would have adjusted into the 'purple' zone until it worked on the AA on the darkest color on the bedspread so that this color would also serve to color the outlines of things on the scene. For example, using a purple for that mid red (its doable) would allow you to color the outlines of things on the floor like the floppy disc.
I could go on and on :p
Remember, I originally said I like it and will vote for it.
@jal: Much appreciated! Glad to hear from you.
If you wouldn't mind and have the time, I'd appreciate a deeper analysis of what technical issues are present and how to improve my color choices, be it here or in a private message. :)
Great idea and execution of the vision.
Some technical weaknesses and some color choice issues but I'll still vote for this :)
@clefairykid: I literally just missed your comment by minutes! Maybe another color would make the shadows a tad less harsh on the side, and some folds on the bed could be improved shading-wise. I'll mess around a bit with it. Thanks for the crit!
Hey thanks guys!
@tomic: Whew, I'm glad the imagery got across! I was afraid it may have gotten lost under everything else.
@jeremy: Awesome, I was trying to practice my palette skills with this one... still a lot to learn!
cute little bi-plane on the wall!!! :D
It's got an overall "rugrats" comic style to it I think, but nicer XD I think the only thing I'd want to change is the folds on the bed covers, but I'm not very good at suggseting how, except to look at photos of similar bed covers for ideas? XD
bed looks like a freak wave heading towards the beach. awesome!
Never read jal giving such an in-deph critique. Lucky you!
