First we heard the hounds, the skittering sound of their claws hitting the stony floor of the tunnel.

Stitchhounds were vicious creatures, but we had brought a Cardinal unit with us - the ones fitted with the big light arcs to ward off lesser necromachines.

I stood up, getting ready for a frontal attack. When the hounds saw us, they stopped dead, their hollow skulls watching.
And then just waited.
I wasn't risking a frontal attack. Eli had his leg crushed by a cave in, and now laid on the floor, passed out and feverish. While I turned the light arcs on, the stench came.
I covered my mouth and nose, the sudden motion making the hounds flinch.

Then I heard it.

The noise you only hear told by those that are too old and broken to work Ararat.

Clink, the straight blade piercing the ground.
Rrrrroooor, the overburdened wheels raking the cobbled floor.

The Recruiter emerged from the turn in the tunnel, the dead green light oozing from it's grotesque open belly.
His faces considered me. He lifted his pole-thing-weapon, a gruesome bloodstained hook in one end, a jagged spear on the bottom, sticked it on floor in front of him and pulled his bloated wheeled body towards me, crushing pebbles in a deafening sound. Slowly, but surely.
The hounds started.

I ran.

Made this one a while back, for a challenge in another art group.

The theme was a competition for valuable ore between two mining nations from opposite sides of a mountain. One used steampunk elemental machines, and the other used necromancy and "necromachines". My team was the latter.

Half assed the background so I could meet the deadline.

Whoa, thanks a lot, man. And by the way, though I have been making pixel art for a very long time, I actually suck at drawing, so don't be discouraged.

My advice: keep lurking here on PJ and visit the forums. Everybody here is awesome and willing to help with criticism and references :) There's tons of knowledge to be found here.

This is such a gorgeous piece. I am rather new to pixel art (I'm a programmer), but have been working on some of the art for a space platformer a friend and I are building. The visual theme we are going for is dark and dreary with vibrant colour highlights. To my untrained eye, some of my creations make me feel more or less successful, considering the aforementioned (I am not an artist).

That being said, seeing at this piece makes me realize how elementary my work is, but it also gives me much hope and inspiration. You have done a wonderful job with this. You should be very proud of yourself.

Funny, I never pictured him as an advanced machine. It's more like a necromantic experiment, a thing that has to drag itself around using that pokey-stick he is holding. But yeah, I could have made it rounder. You have a point.

I love the choice of colors, but the wheels are really off. For this looking like such an advanced machine, those wheels barely qualify as round. Don't get me wrong, I love the rest, can live with the rushed background since it still fits atmospherically, but the wheels just keep me from adding this to my favorites, basically.

Напомнило сталкер, забавно вышло.

I find the green too intense but apart from that it's very original and creative.
