For the colors, I'll edit the pic, I uploaded the one whe I used a gradient on the text....my bad!
I really like the ligthing, looks nice and shiny.
You used far too many colours though! ;) 367 to be exact.

yes, as Mandrill previously stated, you have too many colours, try sticking to a indexed colour palettes... that option is not available in all drawing programs, i for example use Krita and after i have a finished picture i change program to Gimp where i can index the palette... but it might be easier to just use a sofware that has the option of indexed palettes.
The text in the front is done quite good, but i must say that i have a problem with the backround explosion. Your pixel clusters are not very well thought out, meaning that you have stray pixels and even a darkish straight lines that serve no purpose and don't add to the picture. In pixeljoint forum there is a good basic tutorial and of course in Pixelation forum there is a thread about cluster theory and good exsample pictures.
But not all bad, i do like the lighting and the basic shape of the backround and as i said, the text is nicely done and thought out and it has a kind of a metal feel to it, nice texturing there. :)
