AA would help a lot i think, since this is such a large piece and really would benefit from having smoother lines. Selout imo is overrated, but it works in some cases. Basically, you mix colors from the main sprite to make outlines (or in some places even just not have them) instead of using a single outline color, its like a step past colored outlines.....ive never really delved too far and i told bisue all i know http://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/9562.htm but im sure you can find some tutorials if you look for them, tsugumo used o have a nice simple one but his site died.....
Now that that is said, i really like the pallet youve chosen, it looks as though it is straight from a manga. the bending also is rather nice, and i like the starkness of the black parts of the robot to the white parts. The simple use of the blue backlight is also quite effective especially on the legs, and im glad you continued it through into the other highlights because a lot of people are afraid to mix light sources and end up with overemphasized shadow cores. Good work :D
(also, one thing that occured to me is that not AAing a piece like this is in a way a tribute to the other artist, letting their linework go unaltered and just with and around it)
What is 'selout'? I assume AA stands for Anti-Alias, correct? My answer to all those things - I got incredibly lazy with the coloring, indeed, especially at the hands and pretty much everything above the legs. I could have probably done a lot more with the brass/gold parts to make them more metallic, but I simply got lazy.
Really nice, but I agree with DE and Psi weapon. A little AA and selout here would really help this pop in my opinion. Also, the coloring on the left (her left) hand seems a bit off. It makes her hand look sort of lumpy.
