I asked ahead of time if eyes count as everyday objects but was never given an answer, so if it doesn't count, please don't abuse me for it, just kindly remove it from the challenge category. It's something I wanted to do for a while anyway so I thought it was still worth submitting.

Reference is my own eye via photograph I took (I have a thing for macro, and trying to find the small textures in things), link here clefairykid.deviantart.com/art/Eye-Candy-191058493

I stuffed up a bit by allowing too many colours for the blues and not enough to make a smooth eye white area, and I guess most people won't go for the dithering either but I personally love dithering so it's there :P I've been reading the colour theory thread in the forum to try and improve on my difficulty with only getting by with one ramp, and found that the explanation from Syosa really resonated with me, since using a purple for the shadow shade is the only thing I'm really comfortable with and their colours all expanded out from that one, so I realised it's possible to do things that way without crazy branching and stuff. So credit to Syosa's colour work for this approach in colours.

A not very good progress animation type thing but it doesn't show much because I only know how to do it by turning on and off all the layers and I usually do most of the tonal work on one layer, it shows where I'm refining the trouble bits though: orig15.deviantart.net/e489/f/2015/176/b/3/progressanimation1_by_clefairykid-d8yrhvo.gif

i know it isnt a single button click xD thats why i said you are skilled in pixelart :)

using a reference image shouldnt neccessarily mean that you lay it behind and pixel above it xD

I didn't intend to offend anyone, I simply used "index painting", and my own reference images to try and do something a little differently. I figured that the technique being described on this site's forum meant it was ok to use but I guess not? It isn't a single button click colour reduction as such, it has hand crafted elements to it. If it's a no, it's no though. I believe there are other entries that have used reference images as well.

I was very enthusiastic until I found out that your works are rather photo manipulations than pixel art. It's a shame.

even though it seems more of a redux overpixel piece, the objects themselves fit the theme of the challenge spot on, voted 3 times aswell

you are skilled in pixelart, try to get away from the tracing in the future, although it helps in the beginning to eventually get a better grasp of the techniques altogether
