Think of it as a mix between smoke and liquid ( metal ) it's important to give a sense of chaos, but also have the clusters move into a general overall direction ( top right in this case). Also it's important to have the overall shape of the object resembled in the first few frames, especially key elements, like the head in this case.

At the moment, it's 8 active artists. though 6 have worked on it in the past. So a total of 14. I am not sure on the beta waiting time, but I would guess it is not that long?
This looks awesome, how many pixel artist are working on Duelyst? and how long is the waiting time to get into the beta?
I hope to one day reach this level of animation. This is amazing! I expecially love how smooth the "spawning" animation is.
