This is the opening screen for my next big project, a game about making pixel art. You can see the scene with parallax, some animation and even cheesy water reflection at:

pixelartacademy.com

Well, it's a pretty cheesy scene whatsoever, but I simply like sci-fi skyscraper cities and tropical places and palm trees. And airships I guess. It does all have its reasons/purpose in the game world though.

I'm using the Atari 2600 palette (without any restrictions). Only parts are AA due to time constraints (I have to move on to other scenes for the kickstarter video due in 1 week). Some people have also complained about banding and dithering. And I was really sloppy on the trees and clouds. Just thought I'd put it out there …

Yay, I'm glad! This composite is actually more like an aftertought, so yeah, it's all designed to be viewed in the scene.

This looks gorgeous on parallax (even more so than here).

This is nice and the parallax version is even better!

Yup, all noted. Airship was done as a separate illustration first and then quickly inserted into the splash scene. Plus, since it's a parallax scene you look at it from above/below, depending where you are on the webpage. It's true I didn't take too much time for making it perfect for this particular angle.

The birds, I gave myself a hard time too. I put them in so that it looked nice from the terms of composition, but the scale was wrong. I put the above enough so they could kind of be that big, but then there should be only minor atmospheric perspective. I live when everything is technically perfect (realistic), but in the end I let it go for sake of composition.

So I agree with everything. :) But yeah, the parallax nature is where the perspective problems are coming from.

Nice, but there are perspective / angle / distance inconsistencies.

Judging by their attenuated contrast, these birds are the size of jumbo jets!
Airships size is impossible to guess because they are drawn as if sligfhtly from above when actually seen slightly from below, and at the same angle when obviously one is twice further, etc.

I really like that crest as well as the background. Looks quite awesome.
