thanks
subpixels just mean, that you don't have a full pixel moving and rather use another color between pixels to fake a half pixel - pretty much the same smoothening you do with AA
This truck only uses very limited subpixelling, maybe at the wheels, but this also could be a blurring movement.
It rather uses very strong cluster deformation/reformation to achieve the desired effect.
I could use subpixels here, but subpixels are mainly used to smoothen out very tiny movement. The movement of the truck is really fast, the animation already happens with 24 frames per second, so a full pixel movement is here definitely enough to convey the believability.
Gah, this is such a wonderful example of subpixelling. <3 And the shading and colors are top notch, as usual!
How is it that you subpixel, anyhow? Is there some kind of rhyme and reason to it or is it mostly intuitive? :D
All the art for this game looks incredible, very well done
@TheInquisitor & Zizka
Thanks a lot to both of you =)
I second DE's comment on both counts. Just watched the trailer and it looks excellent
I knew this was you just from the preview you. Looking hot as usual.
Wonderful design and animation! Tower 57 looks mind-blowingly awesome!
@dm404
thanks
well it looks even more impressive if it's in motion and you have sound fx =)
I'm impressed with the level of detail for this. The attention to the animation really makes it look like its in motion.
@Bark Snarly:
Thanks for the compliment.
I agree - it's very bouncy, but the truck will drive around in nightlife location. You actually can see the scene in the trailer which will get released tomorrow.
Diving around in a dark area with flashy lights has a slightly different impact on the reflection than a common outdoor scenario.
@AimlessZealot:
Thanks for your compliment and let me answer your question:
It might have been possible to use massive subpixelling to smoothen out the bumps, but I really liked how those bumps came out and emphasized the old engine concept - to me it looked very expressive and I felt like you can hear the "tuff-tuff-tuff"
@shm:
thanks for your nice words.
Leather, vanilla and gasoline, don't make me hot ;D
I've seen some of the devlog over on Tigsource. Awesome looking game.
I feel like the reflections on the car body bounce around a little too much/too quickly which makes it look like they're flickering more than anything. The pixelwork and design are absolutely top notch as always though, really well done!
This is beautiful and the fact that you got that good of values out of it with only 28 colors is impressive. I'm curious, why did you choose not to use any blurred motions during its shudder? It almost seems surreal to stay in such sharp focus during such a rapid motion...
This is the most beautiful pixel truck I have ever seen ! the details, the smoothness, the speculars, absolutely amazing.
I bet it smells good too ! of vanilla and leather, and a hint of leaded gasoline.
I like this, how could I not? Very clean and interesting to look at. Yeah you conveyed quite a lot with undramatic movement.
