The unifinished-ness of it kind of adds to it. It kind of makes me think she's inside her head or something, with the gun being a mere shadow of what's to come.
Yeah, I stuck to the mouse until you know what or you can guess... now I'm stuck to mobile damnit! I actually use both sometimes XD
@ bobo
Thank you very much, great you are digging the painterly look!
Yeah, you are both right about that. The suggested nature of the gun doesn't really transfer that much. I guess if I had left it out, it would have made no big difference.
@ Fusionist
Yeah, it feels quite odd to use it. I'm gonna stick to the mouse. ;)
This is an interesting piece.
I think you conveyed what you wanted very well, althrough after reading Helms post I have to agree with him. With the weapon fading out it is a bit more like she would "blend it out" instead of being stubborn in the face of death.
You did great job mimicking brush strockes! Gives it a painterly feel.
Ooo you used a tablet ;)
Nice! I've been working on mobile since (we all know the story) XD
Thanks a lot, buddy!
Cool you said it looks a bit of like a speed painting, because it is! Well, speed is relative in pixel art, but using the tablet gave it certainly a PS-speed painting feel.
I used to do concept art and speed paintings quite often when I was a bit younger. I had some interesting flashbacks doing this piece.
His expression is really creepy.
Interesting style. Reminds me speed paintings people do in PS.
Great work man! :)
@ Swordless
Thank you!
That was the intention, trying something else with the rendering and polishing. Cool you are digging it! :)
@ showtime
Hehe, great to hear, thanks a bunch!
Spoiler, she doesn't die.
wow, unique shading method right there, quite like the rough look of the piece, colours also go with the theme very well
@ Terff
Thank you!
Yeah, it's a really different approach to pixelling, much closer to other types of digital art in my opinion. It's interesting, but I think I'll stick to my trusty mouse nonetheless. :)
@ Helm
Thank you very much for taking the time to write this critique.
I absorbed every word and feel flattered to hear that from an extraordinary artist like you and I agree. This piece could have been more with the right amount of polishing and a better design.
I think I wanted to focus too much on the face and tried to sell the rest as some absurd artistic nonesense.
Still, I'll let it be the experiment I intented it to be and learn from it a few things for future, more detailed, pieces.
Very nice per usual! I've never tried using my tablet for pixel art before besides line art, but I really like how this turned out!
For your theme to work the weapon needs to be rendered as well, as it's not a theoretical idea, it's a reality that collides with the - well rendered - determination of your actor.
As a person who has many times in his life rationalized stopping a piece before it's done, take my recommendation with respect and admiration. I like the piece a lot. I just think it needs to be more, to get to what you want it to be from your description.
Also, I would render the ears, they're not inconsequential, gunshot and all.
@ rhlstudios
Really cool you like it, Kat! Thank you very much.
@ ADrawinMan
Hehe, thanks a ton, buddy. I'm also ok with here passing for a feminine dude. ;)
@ Omrii
Thank you.
I think it's the missing hair. It's quite hard to make a balded woman look like a... well, woman. :)
I didn't trace it, but I have a font that has a lot of different weapons.
I also thought that it's a guy.
Still, great depiction of PJ Police brutality.
As soon as I saw the eye in the preview I immediately knew you made this haha
Since everyone knows you're very able to pixel on a detailed level already, seeing a loose piece like this is really cool! I think the only thing critique wise is that I can't tell if it's a man or a women -only if I read the description. Not sure how you would go about fixing that though.
Great job!
Expression is really good! Looks like a dude to me, not a girl.
The AA around the fact and the sharp curves around the body/background look kind of weird to me but there's not the focus of the piece so I guess it's okay. The M16 looks a little bit too streched. Did you trace it?
Very well described, thanks a lot!
