I really appreciate that you analysed this progress-sheet. There are a lot of changes, including colours and technique of course. Though I am not so sure if I am really improving but appreciate to read your post.
It makes me really happy to see people liking my pieces, even though I do not like them as much.
Not sure about the AA in it, too. In my point of view it could be way better and this is rather really bad.
In the end I think we talked a lot about this via chatting already - only thing I can do is repeating myself and thank you a lot for taking your time and writing your ideas and impressions down.
About the ideas for improvements - well I planned one last edit for this... but that will probably take some more time. However this edit will only fix some stuff with the AA on the hair.

I am happy you like it, dpixel! Working with high contrasts was always a huge fun for me! Additionally it is cool to see that using Pixelation helps spreading my progress-history among everyone who is interested.
Finally got time and motivation to comment! 
Your improvement in your recent pieces is astounding and motivating! In this series of pieces it shows best, from Dec 2013 to Jan 2014 you got more aware of shading and volume but it still lacked proper rendering to make it look interesting (and looked still very dA-ish, with that white outline and lack of contrast in the skin), which you got right at Nov 2014. While I can understand that some prefer the Nov 2014 version (certainly not me 
), the most recent one shows great improvement on technique from the former! It has a really pleasant color palette (great contrast, both in hue as in value) that shows that you've learned quite a lot about it, and AA that makes me drool 
I agree with rhlstudios that you deserve every bit of praise you got and should feel proud.
My favorite parts are the eye, which is a real attention graber and conveys emotion, the colors and the AA on the hair strands.
My only nitpicks are the shading of the neck (just a few pixels difference), that I think the nose should be 1px moved to our right and the string of the eye-patch. Could have worked better imo if it's either a tad bit darker overall or if it get's darker a few pixels later. The eye-patch itself may could have used a bit more detail but really just a very tiny bit.
I'm glad that you improved so much! I think you more than earned it, seeing your dedication (I feel like such a horrible slacker in comparison ). It pains me through, that this isn't as obvious to you as it is to others.

That's a really a great improvement from the other ones. And it have some improvements from the one I saw in Pixelation.

pssttt... I told Lake about the string before uploading, he didn't listen. I also added shade to the right side of the face but alas i'm not good enough for Lake to have taken my advice :b
Colors and eye, I'd say. Also, great AA, and hair turned out pretty good.
My only nitpicks are - string under the eye doesn't really look like string, more like a scar. Maybe changing a line direction and making it a bit darker would help.
Also, right side of the face probably should be in shadow, since light source is on the left.
The color, anti-aliasing and structure are fantastic compared to your previous versions! 
I knew this was good when I saw it on pixelation. The palette is really nice and the high contrast accentuates it.
Hahaha you should feel super proud of this. 100% gorgeous. You deserve every last drop of praise you're getting and more <3
