Holy crap, I just took another look at this piece and I JUST noticed the skull. I'm so blind haha.
This piece is unbelieveably sick. encaspulates what pixel art should aspire to be. wonderful work.
I prefer the second version myself without the skeletons but its awesome on its own too!
My favourite version.
The mostly warm colours and lovely figures bring this to another level in my opinion.
I like the new cartoony details myself!.. I am agreeing with Solrac and Finlal about the overall atmosphere in V.2. yet this is fun; I love the use of cyan and the gamey mystery the new figures bring. overall I'd say it's been improoved.
Stunning, but I honestly prefer the second version without the cartoony skeletons, skulls and bats. It has a darker and more desolate atmosphere that works better with the theme, I think.
Thanks guys! Good points all. Truth is, I'm perpetually hesitating between more/less saturation, warmer/colder colors, in all the stuff I do including photography.
After I made version 2 ('Petra'), I thought I had strayed too far from my initial concept, and tried to address this here. In a while I might be able to decide which one I like best!
Desaturated the blue, that's all I can bring myself to downtone right now ;)
Very much an improvement over the older ones, and still a really wonderful concept. I have to agree with finlal though, the second version has a more desolate and dead atmosphere, largely thanks to its less saturated colors. Personally, I do not care greatly for the drastically hueshifted colors in this piece, I find them, the blue espeically, to be jarring, and they give it an awfully lively aura. The colors of the other were much more dreary, which I found more fitting. Other than that, this is a great improvement, especially in regards to those marvelous reflections in the water, and the overall more polished look. I think it certainly seems more "video-gamey", but really don't think those colors are necessary to generate that effect, especially not with those ghosts and bats and skeletons and effects going on.
Nice improvement on the old HoFamer.
Though the second version feels creepier and more "dead".
Your link to the painting doesn't work.
Great work! Definitely an improvement over the first two versions. The use of blue is interesting and looks particularly good at a glance, though it gives me a headache if I look at it too long.
I particularly like the reflections on the water, they're very clear but don't distract.
I just notcied that the smoke doesnt reflect in the water in his left eye (Right side).
manupix pls fix!
