I darkened the mids like you recommended, also the shadow and brightened the highlights. The palette now has color though it's an unusual green and red combo.
I'll play around with the colors a bit. Darker mids and shadows might make the armor more shiny too.
Pretty cool. I like the design of the armour and weapons.
You could darken the mids and shadows a bit, should help to balance the palette.
I know what you mean. For me, I'm really into all the action, comedy, and music, but not so much the sappy stuff. Anime sticks a ton of emotion and expression because that's just their culture, and that can be a turn-down for me when it gets excessive.
I decided to go grayscale colors so I don't screw up the palette. 
I started claymore, but didn't stick to it :(
