The head appears larger than the rest of the body because I neglected to draw anything below the very beginnings of my shoulder. My head is facing a mirror, but my body is facing the computer, so there is some strange looking foreshortening. If I drew down to the beginnings of the arm, then it would probably not have such a strange appearance...

Im surprised no one mentioned how femenine the face is, other than the beard of course. Of course, the artist might not really look like this. Very good effect though. Definetly a favorite.
I think this looks amazing - great use of colors - especially using blues as skintones. Very nice. I'd consider it pixel art - no tools were used and althought I highly doubt each and every pixel was individually placed I don't see why it couldn't be considered pixelart.
Great job - it's been faved and it seriously looks amazing - love the headphones
despite the faact that its not what is generally considered pixelart, this remains one of my top favorite (possible sinlge favorite) pieces on this site. just stopping by to increase the rating from 5/5 to 6/6 :P
not my job to tell you if you should remove it or not. This isn't pixelopolis and I am not a moderator here. My comments were from the point of just another user. I don't think you're annoying anybody overtly with this or any other piece that's light on the pixelartisms, I just have a habit of pointing out art that isn't on pixeljoint because there's a lot of stuff going on that should never be confused for pixel art. Your case is different though, you're just quite good and it would be very benefitting of your art if you started to use pixel tech more, therefore the comments.
Pixel art techniques are manual antialias, colour conservation and smart ramping, dithering (which you did use and I was wrong to say 'no pixel tech') selout and variations. Check the pixelopolis wiki for definitions of these things, and generally register at pixelopolis for in-depth critique of your work, as this isn't exactly the place for more, in my opinion.
Also, can someone just give me the ground rules of what I am or am not allowed to do with pixels to qualify it as pixel art? I hate being out of the loop here...
Very well. No pixel techniques used if you say so. Should I remove it? Am I breaking any rules? I'm kind of new at the constraints of pixel art... Sorry if I've offended anyone or something.
Oh sorry, didn't see ptoing saying much of the same thing below. Don't want to start anything. I guess I'll read all the comments before speaking next time.
I was not speaking about the dithering (which prolly was done with a ditherbrush, nothing wrong with that), but about jiggely lines here and there, for example on the headphone.
Also the colours could be spaced a tiny bit better and colourcount reduced. And i still think cleaning small stuff like the wobbly lines and aa'ing them would help it.
Regardless, it still is a very nice picture, but looks more like an oekaki than pixelart.
Well I shure wouldn't discard it. This may not be sprite art, but it's definetly pixel art. This has a painting-like feel to it, and not everyone likes that, but it's shure working for me.
If people look into Vasava artworks' book 1x1, there are many pieces that are definetly pixel art, but they don't qiute represent the medium that is on show at pixeljoint.
oh and ptoing, i disagree. I find the dithering to be quite precice. This piece think is more about the overall look, not the details :)
@ptoing Actually, I placed the pixels on this peice pretty carefully, I just wasn't going for the usual style I normally do. I was trying to make it look more like a drawing, with line variation and the like. I was reluctant to post this because I figured that it wasn't a sprite, and I didn't anti-alias or use selective outlining, so it might have been found unnacceptable. My aim was to make more of a vector art type of feel - also, this was done with a mouse. Most of the sketchy lines (especially in the hair) were done with the line tool... I just hope that fact doesn't disqualify it as pixel art...
looks nice, but i would not call it pixelart. I can see no overly careful placement of pixels, to me it looks like oekaki. With some optimisation, quite a bit cleaning up and aa this would be an ace pixelpiece.
