I'm not the most experienced or established pixel artist, so please forgive me if I ask what you mean by having the image be cleaner. Is it generally frowned upon to have redundant pixels, as in corner pixels and so on? If that is what you mean, I gotta say, I understood that as an optional step, not a necessity.
