The last-minute background addition did me in. And I have no regrets.

Very nice!

Was almost sure to find something UFO related just seeing the prev...

edit : I shouldn't be rambling about UFOs here!

Hey, thanks, man
And huh, I wouldn't know! Looks like I should better redo lots of it, starting by squishing the face as it is already quite long.
I still owe you a proper MCOL thing ;)
I'll try to finalize it this week, even if I'm not completely happy with what I did.

Hehe thanks.
The stray pixels on the brim are there to convey the fact that the hat is very old! It was already in bad shape when I got it, seven years ago (I think it's the kind of had you get for free with a chainsaw or weed whacker, but it's a surprisingly good hat)

Hehe, more like brainphone. It goes well inside!

It was for me too... I miss my not so beautiful hobo beard. Looked super weird for a few days!

Oh yeah I can definitely see that. I had completely forgotten those starcraft portraits.

Uh, thanks, everyone, didn't really expect that much appreciation! Probably because I'm not really a big fan of my own face, though I did enjoy doing the phone, and also the hat. That's a first doing that right.

(I really got a new phone right before making this, didn't have one for 20 years, and I'm not too happy about it, hence the not too happy face)

Thought petscii was a bit lame until I saw what you've done with it (especially that golfer fellow... and walking beatnik waving) and I can now see the magic a little clearer

Beautiful stuff, your two chaos engine ... re-imaginatingedded pieces. Straight to the favs!

@ptoing

Thanks, and ... I'm on it ;)
I recently started something with wide pixels and VIC-20 colors, with a few adjustments I think I'll manage to make it fit the MCOL mode... limitations thing (it's only 5-6 colors, should be feasible).

P.S. : oh and this piece (the bird and turret) wouldn't have existed if not for a comment of yours which I discovered by chance, when I had absolutely no intention to enter the weekly challenge (it was about a method for accurately rotating stuff by starting with a top view, and that made the process super easy)

user
mwambi @ 3/14/2021 03:19 commented on sentry gun (weekly challenge)

@gawrone

Thanks! About the abundant AA, I just found it better than without. It also contributes to the bird's shape, being super tiny, and can be used for sub-pixel animation if needed.

Oh, no, I did not, probably never will, and am only vaguely familiar with all that stuff (and more of a grey ones kind of guy myself :p).
Ahem, saw an UFO, though ... (like many of us belgians did in the early 90's), and from pretty close so I have no doubt about the existence of ... very functional anti-gravity technology, but that's it ;)

I'm glad I didn't fell too deep into this rabbit hole.

Hehe thanks.

I used to draw, tried sculpting recently and considering getting into polymer clay. Or something that doesn't require being in front of a computer. I don't upload anything anywhere except here )

Indeed, you need to give points to reach higher ranks. It gives you points, too, which also helps.

I think you can already attribute rating points (up to 5 for now), and the overall rating will determine an entry's position in the monthly top 10, weekly showcase and hall of fame.

You can access the ranking system, the requirements needed to attain each rank and everything by clicking on your current rank on your profile page (but I guess you know that already).

There is a nice little tool you can find under the "features" dropdown menu to know a picture's color count. Super useful for finding that one color inadvertently used for only one or two pixels.

And welcome to the pixel joint!

Okay, erm... It looks a little more like eyelids now, but the breast-shaped eyelids weren't probably such a bad idea. Maybe they'll be back soon.

Thank you for pointing that out )

@Mandrill

Thanks!
But I think it is the palette that has rocked me.

user
mwambi @ 8/2/2016 09:28 commented on Trippycats

@skittle

Fairly certain that I'm not (and she's a much better artist than I am, in my opinion), but I almost asked myself the same question while doing this. I had to imitate her style for a challenge and it surely affected the way I approach pixel art. I'm not so afraid of outlines anymore and  don't use as much dithering as before.

I've been drawing freaky animals with unconventional dentition for a long, long time but I don't deny that I could've been inspired by OCEANSCENTED's work, which I admire.

While I'm at it, I also recently took inspiration from Finlal's dithering, and inspecting the work of a3um helped me overcome my aversion of angular clusters. It's good to be a sponge, sometimes.
