Fantastic! I did not notice the colour reference but it makes perfectly sense. Maybe subconscious. I can't believe I did not recognise Black Falcons! They were my favourite.

Thanks for the trophy!

Perfect! Thank you!

I was away for a while from Pixel joint. There was once a "random unrated art" window on the pixel art detail page which allowed me to cycle through a bunch of unseen art. Is is gone for good, or can I activate it somewhere?

Similar to the "Random Pixel Art" window here at the discussion page.

Thank you!

@Hapiel: I already miss the little guy as well, though I must say that I also have to get used to the new avatars of some of the older members too. Yours included.

Thank you all for the kind words!

@Jão, railslave: I was thinking how I could hint on the preview that there is more to come, but then dropped all my concepts. Sarevok is inviting enough.

@CELS: I still remember how fun it was to draw the matron. Should I put a nudity warning an the preview because of her?

@WolfGD, gennoveus: I also wonder how I got the time for all of these back then. That was probably my most productive period. I guess I slipped into a comfortable workflow after a while.

I am not sure about the first, but the rest seem to be 80s-90s LEGO castles factions (Lion Knights, Wolfpack Renegades, Forestmen).

As for the pixels: I like the clean rendering and the strong colors. I am not so sure about the wind animation though. It suggests a deep grass but the characters just stand on top of it. Have you tried sinking their feet into the grass?

Thanks for the kind words!

@railslave: this was my first try to adhere to all teh C64 restrictions, and it's a horror. Respect for every retro artists.

@fighter fish: I'm not a fighting games fan neither (I guess the original Yie Ar Kung Fu on the C64 was the game I played the most with back in the days), but I am a fan of the 90s SNK fighting game sprites, and there were some gorgeous stages as well.

@Stickman: thanks for the clue, never heard of software sprites before. Will probably never do a C64 game, but I might use that knowledge for my future c64 pixels.

@Erico: I am pretty satisfied with Joe. His simple design works really well on a C64.

Thanks guys! Since my son got and built a LEGO NES for his birthday, I am totally in a retro gaming vibe, so you might expect some more c64 or ega stuff.

We have just watched the episode with the kids last weekend.

I find the reflection animation a bit strange, unnatural, and miss some slight reflection (just some lighter bands as in the animated series) on the whole surface.

Oh, that is my fault. I've only seen that is is the last entry in the news, I thought it is the current one. Have not seen the date. No problem.

Sweet! I hope I don't have to wait another ten years to play it myself.

All of the graphics remind me of the best days of Amiga (though I never had one).

This is a project I've been excited about for over ten years. Now even more so...

I would have loved him being portrayed like that in Kingdom Come, though his clothing looks rather simple for a king. I like your rendering as well.

Looks great!

The trees look a bit flat though. The foliage is practically a single color, the few patches do not define any shapes. Some more black on the trunks like in your "Grimm Tayles Background Test" would also enhance the overall look.

I am sure this does not fit with to your limitations, but I thought about something like this:

I spotted some single pixels. Great nonetheless!

Oh, and you mixed up the preview pics.

I like the design and the colors, but the heavy banding ruins the sprite a bit.

user
Adam @ 1/18/2018 21:34 commented on William Blake's Ghost of a Flea turned into a Shin Megami Tensei boss sprite

Looks great!

I guess you did not really intend this to actually look like Shin Megami Tensei, 'cause there are some very prominent deviations in style (your use of hue shifts and outlines, no flatness, highlights, background composition, etc.).

user
Adam @ 1/8/2018 21:23 commented on Tent

Nice lighting. I'd suggest getting rid of the bottom outline though.

Is this going to happen or just a mockup?

Lenin, haha! Funny concept.

I find the facial dither a bit distracting, the colors a bit dull, bit overall I enjoyed the sprite. Thanks for sharing!

user
Adam @ 6/21/2017 21:15 commented on palace

I like the simple yeteffective rendering. There are some minor banding issues, the red dithering and the wing outlines are not really working for me. I find the irregular stones at the sides great.

Nice icons, the classic outfits fit the nostalgic palette as well. I like the fighter guy the best, the pose looks great. I miss a bit of harder shadows under the arm/arrow of the elf, and the anatomy of the mage looks a bit off as well. Here is a quick workflow visualisation of my creature catalogue icons I made for the FRUA boards way back, they might help You as well:

wizard

Nice work on the frame too, I particularly like the weapon silhouettes, thought I find the dark cyan and purple bits on the tentacles too light/contrasty: they look more like noise as reflection.

Adam @ 5/29/2017 21:22 commented on The Atomic Monks Page3

This time it was a bit hard to follow the sequence, it was not clear at first to follow the monks along the base. Why not using some more direct visual hints like:

wizard

Nice comic by the way! I like the outdoor strips a bit better, but the atmosphere is there in every chapter.
