Well.. It Does include a moai... i think it´s a fun idea, but am i allowed?

By the way, is it me ore when i dither GIF´s blend the colours together?
I mean, where i dithered, midtones popped in.. ._.
Somebody take a close peek, please, and tell me what´s happening? ._.

when it says MAX. it means you can use up to XX colors.
when it says MIN. you have to use at least XX colors.
When it doesnt says anything, it means its up to you to use as many as you need("as you need" is not the same as "as you can/want". remember you have to watch over the #colors you're using.)

on the dithering issue, your colors are right, there are no "extra tones"(unless I asume you saved a GIF image with a limited support of colors or a standard palette, wich gave you undesired colors).
 Dithering is a technique based on an optical ilusion, wich is based on one of the laws of perception(proximity). your eyes can't percieve the small diferences between each dot of color, and interprets it as a single tone. the bigger the area of each color they are, the better your brain can decode the image and the easier will be to identify the boundaries of each color. same reason why diferent patterns of dithering will result in the idea of diferent tones, hence the reason why using more than the simple checkboard pattern is encouraged in order to get more than a middle tone and to wider your posibilities, and even the point of not limiting yourself to a pattern-esque dither gives you more color choices and more results. aswell(check exocet's work). dithering is more than checkboard pattern. and its never, ever nevecasry under some certain, specific cases.

oh, and in your particular piece, i doubt you really need it at all. but it seems that you fooled yourself with your own dithering. either check your monitor or your own eyes.
