The theme for this isometric collaboration is
underground.
This project features DawnBringer's award winning 16 color palette. Scale inspired by fool's castle piece. ![]() Edited by jalonso - 18 November 2011 at 1:47pm |

Yay for the new collab!(:
• The first 5 tiles may be anywhere at all and require no neighboring tiles.
Does this rule apply to completed or claimed tiles? Thx |

Write me down #22.
Also, the angle of the tiles gives off a top-down impression. Or maybe I'm just crazy. o_O Slight nitpick already, sorry. If it's underground then the light source, technically, can and should be from any and every direction. Think about it, there's no sun right? So there's like torches and lamp-posts everywhere. Both, kind-of :/
It kinda depends on what's completed first and establishes starting points for others to feed off. This is truly the weirdest rule and we just have to rough it till some areas have begun. I'm claiming some pink edge tile just to illustrate what 'break the grid' means and I don't really need a number to call. Hope this answers your question. *top-down grid but isometric projection...to be different :p _____ This is DawnBringer's take on his palette, which may be helpful. ... This time I followed that old path of making well balanced palette suited for game-gfx. I sacrificed a bit of the dark register for some brighter colors. Tried to optimize for many smooth ramps and mixes while still having useful colors on their own. Here's a handmade "ramp-scheme", and a Hue-Brightness plot + isometric colorspace-cubes made with scripts in Grafx2. (The brightness is perceptual according to my formula: sqr[(0.26*r)^2, (0.55*g)^2, (0.19*b)^2] , multiplying with 1.56905 normalizes to a scale of 0-255... it's better than Luma Y'601 according to my eyes at least). ![]() And finally a little Mockup color test: ![]() Edited by jalonso - 13 September 2010 at 8:44am |

Sooo... since it's top-down but iso... do we do traditional 45 degrees, or can we go all Ultima an this biatch?
Which again brings the light source into question. |

It's isometric NOT 45 degrees. Just isometric(as seen in fool's ref image) tiles inside a 'diamond shaped' template. Erase top-down from your brain. Light source is shown >:(

wow, This will be fun :D
I will just wait until there are like 8-10 tiles, so i can make my own one! It's just me or the losangle tile makes isometric looks more dificult to do? |

![]() WIP for tile 82; needs refinition. i hope its okay, this is the first time i do collab like this in pixel art, it reminds me a bit of the game "exquisite corpse" my iso skills are lacking also.Edit: definetly need the shading and removal of black outline on bottom of serpents neck (it is supposed to be emerging from water) and also shading on floor/floor detail and shading/depth work on the crystal on the wall Edited by Mars Haseugen - 12 September 2010 at 6:28am |

If there is light coming from inside the entrance, why there is a shadow on the floor? |

Now that you mention it, it doesn't make much sense... ![]() Here is a new version w/o the shadow... I think it's better. The entrance doesn't really lighten anything other than itself. Everything else is lit by the light source on right that was specified in the first post... That's why the top of this tile is so dark, it is in the shadow cast by that huge stone formation. |

This is tile #93.
![]() I tried to keep as many 2:1 iso lines as possible to serve as a guide. I also hope to show here what 'breaking the grid' means on the outer edges.
BPixels, I dunno if this is to scale or not. Keep scale in mind, k. ![]() Abrax, this is not isometric :(. I purposely made stairs in my tile to show you how your tile stairs should be. I really like your idea, its just not iso. zch, mars hausegen
Satsume, looks too above ground, imo. Could it edited to something like an underground spring/cavern? A shark-LochNess monster mix type might help too. I'll now wait for Reo to add a tile, so I can neighbor him >.< Me thinks good starting tiles will set the tone and mood for this so be pioneers! |

No, breaking the edges like that is just for outer (pink) tiles, so it doesn't have a boring edge only...just design. All inner tiles are solid and opaque so other's can blend into them.
Be creative and do your own thing in your tile. Just think more underground. I like your tile but it looks like a beach above ground now. |
