Hey everyone, just updating you on my computer issue. It turns out my new laptop's contrasted cannot be altered even externally, go figure. Anyway to give you an example how bad it is I looked at Helm's The Spartan and I literally saw only the four colours used.

So what does this mean. Well after along time of trying to work things out I've decided that I will keep it as a backup as origionally planned, however I will be storing only pixel art on it and utilizing it for that sole purpose. From there I will have to transfer to USB and then onto my new one. I will have to use this method because there is no way I can pixel on my current setup. One piece I managed to find out was that my laptop was running 64bit rather than the standard 32bit and maybe this was affecting the distortion to pixel art, I'm not sure. (at least this is what I was told)
I do not know how to alter this to 32-bit though. However if anybody has any info if this may be the true issue and if so how to fix I would greatly appreciate. So anyway a WIP for my tile may take a while, I'm hoping to find a way to fix my monitor. (As I know it's not correct because my friend has the same sort of computer and the pixel art looks nothing like what it does on mine. =(

@ultimaodin - afaik the system archetecture (x86 or x64) has nothing to do with colors. A possible reason of such difference in color perception might be the laptop display - LCD(?) on the old one vs LED(?) on the new one.

mhmhm, what tile should I claim...

I'm checking the tiles that are free, and without an uncertain WIP neighbour waiting to be completed (ones that are started but don't give an idea what the border will be like)

@Jalonso, I don't see why not, the idea is very innovative and it's already looking great.

I think I'm mostly done with this until Kren, Wiggly or Pandora post their tiles or unless someone has any criticism. Also I intent to add something on the lower water level later on but no idea what it is.

@Gecimen, The only thing I see is the lacking of a shadow on the snake.  Probably irrelevant as you're trying to match your neighbor.
I like the shape of it so I had to play with it. :p

@jalonso - Maybe it is just me... You know how it is when in indian movie all the people suddenly start to dance:D Same for your tile. It looks like a group of bandits that occupied abandoned factory all of a sudden start to dance:D

Maybe add girls/women in traditional clothes?

@dpixel; thanks, I'll do a minor shading, since I think the firebreath must have provided some light around the head.

Ok you made me search the whole 13 page thread . It seems you claimed it 15 days ago, never to look back again, I just checked this Friday, it was either never entered or deleted due to inactivity. But I've got no idea of none of these, I'm just trying to understand what happened, I'm just a random user in here.

Just want you to know it was not my intention to "steal" your claim. Well I didn't even know it was claimed. I was just checking, saw it wasn't listed as claimed (see post#2 on first page) and claimed it and done something in 3 days.

Now mate, it's obvious a mistake has been done. As for a possible solution, as you haven't posted a WIP within this 15 days, I assume you never started it, so you can easily claim a new tile and do it instead.

Or if you insist on #87, I can give up my tile for the moderators to decide what to do with it, delete it or whatever, but it's 6-7 hours of work so I wouldn't feel too good about it, that's for sure.

If its somewhere then our bad on not reserving it and your bad on not saying so. Tile 87, right? We'll sort it out :)

While the shipment of vodka for my dancers arrive, I've played with #83


@Gecimen, sometimes collabs mellow out for periods of time. School, work, other stuff comes up.
Hopefully, people are not shying away because the quality really has been high here. I hope all see that c+c+help is freely given here and it can serve to learn :/

If this came when I said I wanted 87 it wouldn't be a problem but now that I've completed it, I can only hope he chooses another tile =/

Btw great stuff there on #83. Do that stairs land on top of the wall?

In pink tiles like 23 you can go outside into the clear areas as much as you need. One of your neighbors (15) has not posted a WIP but he did PM me to tell me he's working on it so leave that edge on the generic side till shampoop posts the tile.

*That area and shampoop's tile is the last spot with no neighbor, but it could be snader's too, whomever is first.*

Well guess both are true but I think the process should be like: 1-Have some free time, 2-Think about an idea, 3-Claim a tile... And at the moment many people are doing it in the exact reverse order They claim a tile without having an idea or time, and until the have either they forget about the collab all together. You know, when you have both the time and the idea, it takes an hour to have a WIP and a few more to complete even for a newb like me.

@Snader, thanks! (and if I were you I wouldn't wait for the neighbours to post a WIP, if you go first, you will help them have a better idea what their tile will be like, too)

Sorry if i come over as a nuisance, but despite not being very far into my wip, i'm already posting and asking for tips...

So, I know I probally am in way over my head...
but I want my tile (95) to be a reference todiscworld.
But i really need some(read a lot) pointers in the right direction.

I believe i can get the turtle to work, but i don't know how to add the 4 (or 2) elephants.

Woot.. I love discworld!

I think you should make the turtle slightly bigger, then go over and check Jalonso's horses in tile #73, and accordingly make a bigger isometric elephant and flip it for the second one. This is the important part, cause elephants looking sideways not only look wrong in the main picture, but also don't seem like standing on the spherical shell of the turtle.

Also I think you shouldn't make that ground like a sand-bridge, cause the turtle seems to carry the bridge ATM and not the whole land.

Starting this way you would see what parts of the turtle and elephants would be exposed.  My guess is you would only see a little trunk and leg of the elephants.

@Pandora's Secret -  2nd off, you are so lucky dpixel took the turtle :p. I too think making the turtle iso is a better idea AND probably easier too.
Anyhoo, once you have the elephants worked out everything else will fall into place. Work on the layout first before getting heavy into the pixel pushing ;)

Now, I've got to stop for a while so here's WIP2 for tile #46.

I'm quite fond of catching the effect I wanted without imitating Zch's beautiful style.
Btw that fishtail belongs to the middle statue :P
Now one question remains, what should I do with the ground? Maybe a circular platform?... or just rocks... or praying people? Can't decide.

Since noone's commenting I'm done (and for the first time quite satisfied) with tile #46 .

Still open to C&C of course. Just don't touch my nudist worshippers please!

Btw is it me or is the site down once every half an hour?

@Jal, why don't you add your two new tiles even if they're WIP mode? They look mostly completed to me.

This looks half iso half not.
To make it iso, I think you should move the right (left on the screen) flipper of the turtle to the left and up (close to the head) and the disc 1:2.

@Gecimen, Doesn't the fish need a front fin? Maybe it can be a staircase too. Just seems to be missing something there :/


@Pandora'sSecret, The elephants look more like Stonehenge in the last update. I think you have to have more space between the turtle and the disc to work. The disc doesn't even have to be a disc, just a curve will work to suggest discworld. Turtle not quite iso yet.

You know what? I was thinking of a fin at the same place you drew, just a bit different shaped, then I draw the stone platform and liked the stones so much I didn't want to cover them :D

But yes I think you're right, this looks missing, I will add one tonight. Thank you.

@Gecimen: that's looking pretty sexy! Though I think the eye and perhaps the teeth are a bit bright. Tested to make it a little darker...might have experimented some with the surroundings as well... (Too lazy to do another tile so I'm just fiddlin' with other ppl's hard work :D)

I thought this collab would take a year or longer to finish, but at this pace it could be done in a few weeks...and if others aren't up to the task; it looks like Jalonso is set to finish it himself ;)

Hey guys, okay here is my first WIP for tile #15.  I am thinking of making a marble madness cave based tile.
 
I would make the structure rock base and leave the top left/right sides open to blend with a neighbor.  PM me if you would like to work with me on expanding this idea to a neighboring tile.  BTW, this will probably not be the final structure, I just wanted to post some kind of progress.

Nice, that would be tile #23 so the floating islands would work.  I am not sure if the green/red/gold colors are what I will finish with though.  Instead, I was thinking of making the structure look like stone.  I am open to something else though and I am just glad to make progress on something.  Give me a day or two so I can attempt the stone idea.

@Jalonso; What you forget is tiles from pixel artists like you, luckyF, Jinn, DB etc. are not only fillers but also they are good for inspiration to others, (especially about coloring techniques) so don't make the mistake of removing that beautiful tile #83. Also they carry your signs and make the whole piece more beautiful and prestigious when showing friends, or just looking at it. I wish you guys contributed even more. We'll never run out of tiles if that's your concern. Plus; Tile #83 was abandoned once before, doubt anyone will want to make it if it gets abandoned a second time.

@DB; thanks for the advice. That metallic looking part is not on my tile. PS: I'd really love it if you made another tile. You know, with your familiarity with the palette I'm sure you can make a tile on one evening.

@Shampoop and Snader; it's going great guys. Floating isles was one of the things I really wanted to see.

You can cut the water on the upper side a bit smoother, and you can make the roof a bit more colorful. Also I would suggest using some selective outlining on the stones (make the outline brighter on the light side). At the moment outlines don't fit your tile's style.

Okay, I spent a half hour trying to get a coloring technique for the structure.  Still not committed to anything though.



@Snader.  I like the Idea of painting.  Maybe, since things are fallen over/in disarray items, we could have some janitors painting the rocks/picking up stuff.  Anyway, I'll keep at it and hopefully not end up like this guy ->

@snader: "I find there's a lack of a nice grassy area in the world." - Good, I've been thinking of that too; a greenish area to balance/vary the image.

@DB; btw I've edited the image by your recommendations. It was only about the metallic part.
Some green grass wouldn't hurt on an outre tile like Snader's but wouldn't fit inner tiles. So, what's green and underground? Sewers maybe?
Btw, I really want you to do another tile.. don't dodge it! :)

The shape of the water is not very attractive. I think it would look better if you deleted the whole waterfall and just left that edge on the clear side with maybe just a little bit of water's edge like the tiles on the bottom right hand edge of the main picture and adding a Greek ship on the top might be cool, one of THESE ships.


@Shampoop/snader, that's a great tile combo

@Gecimen, the fin makes it much better. Your pixelling just keeps improving and improving.

@DawnBringer, A little grass is fine but I hope it doesn't take over too much. Many things can be green other than grass.
