Pending issues with tiles:
3 zwooll - Adjust tile position (this nice looking tile may be removed soon)
82 Mars Haseugen - I know you were an early tile maker but if you can adjust the lighting on some of the rocks to match your neighbors and define the monster a bit it would be awesome

Inactive tiles:
22 greenraven - 56 alpoter - 84 LBpixels - 97 Paxjah - and 79 kren (extra time to make up for messing you up, but please keep us informed, k)
Please keep us informed by posting here. The 2nd post on the first page will always have tile reservations that might be lost, I might not always remember to PM you.

Thanks for the ideas and the support. I moved the title as you said Jalonso, and add some snow. I will try to make a squeleton of some animal, but I like the tail idea too. I 'll continue tomorrow.

I wondered if I was allowed to do something like this :

I will be forced to draw on a3um's tile because I think it will look strange if my rocks stop is too abrupt...

You can meet a3um outside your tile area and blend into it, but don't pixel over anything made by a3um, not a single pixel, k.

I knew this is what my problem was,  I know it's hard to explain.  But seeing what works and what doesn't and what could be better and what is just awesome is a little more evident now just based on color.  This is why I admire your work, jal.  You're a master of color and composition, especially color.  I wish I was fully over to the other side, but I'm not, but a hell of a lot closer than when I started.
I think I should work with DB's pallete more on my own to more fully understand why it works.
I'll get there.

@JC Denton - I guess jalonso meant, that you can't change any pixel that belongs to someone's tile area. Thats why you can't touch any of my precious violet pixels! >:] Here is my quick suggestion for a border:

Also, you can make your tile in a way you want, and then I'll change mine to blend with yours(:

Thx, Jaker Pot + Paxjah

@JC Denton, to be clear. You can't go into a3um's tile (pink area) at all. If you want to meet a3um you need to ask him to collaborate on some detail or whatever. I am not the decider of anything. I'm just keeping things in order and helping others solve issues that come up.

@dpixel, Using DBs palette as a base for future work is fine a idea. A better excercise might be to develop your own palette with the knowledge gained from DBs. Start with two ramps of 2-3 colors and add new shades that feed off those 2 ramps and take you to the next ramp you add. Tweak here and there and experiment. Somewhere on this thread DB posted the development + theory behind his ramp. Creating your own 16 color palette and then recoloring a tile you've made with the palette you create will also show you how values/hue in a single shade affects things.
* I am not that good at palette development in pixelart. I struggle all the time. I tweak colors the entire time I'm working and never feel entirely sure.

Did I hear someone talk about color-theory and palette-design? That's risky when a madman like me is running around in tha hood. ;)

Maybe it's the wrong thread for this...but what the heck, so sue me! ;)

Working with colors in RGB-colorspace is not all that simple & intuitive. Looking at what's going is a bit clearer when viewing HSL/HSV colorspace, that is HUE, SATURATION and BRIGHTNESS (Lightness, Value, whatever...).
But it's pretty important that brightness is adjusted to the perception of the human eye (phenomena I'm exploring a lot). But  I don't recommend that you tweak individual colors using a HSL/HSV model; good 'ol RGB is more exact and probably more familiar.

Smaller and balanced palettes usually have colors of quite similar saturation, so you can focus on the two more important dimension: Hue & Brightness.

When observing the following example I think it's quite clear what a nice tool Hue-Brightness diagrams are for palette evaluation and optimization. (Note that Hue is cylindrical and wraps around).

(I don't know of any gfx program that has really good tools for this, but I hope to include a lot of nice scripts that does the job in the next release of Grafx2)

@DawnBringer, anywhere is fine to rant/ramble/comment/opine on colors as its so challenging for many.
We do collect these bits of wisdom in the "COLOR- I don't get it" thread HERE. I had already added some of your comments and now copied this last one too. Anytime you want to add to that is fine and welcome ;)

@kenpokis, nice update. Its getting there

Obvious improvement. Only thing I think you must do is to refine the upper border of the sea.

@JakerPot; this template is looking better and more creative than the last one.  But imo don't even try to fit a snorlax in :) If you did something distinctive from the outside it would rock. For example, mud or rock outside the dome and grass and a fruit tree inside.

@Jal; Could you please assign me a tile? I've got some ideas for an open tile but none is available at the moment. But still I'd like to do something. Perhaps 16 or 24 or 40? No idea, please gimme something that you'd like to see done.

Also I think there's this pink BG areas left in Pandora's tile on the main picture, is it on purpose?

That "COLOR- I don't get it" thread is awesome.  Just what I was looking for.  Great links too.  I'm surprised I haven't seen it before, because I have looked many times, but it is fairly new.
The thing I find most interesting is a particular color you're thinking to use, can be achieved by other colors within a good pallete which works much better that the original color you were thinking of...If that makes any sense.     Anyway, I noticed this with DB's pallete and all the great tiles created with it.
@jalonso,  definitely will take your advice.  I'll eventually will probably start a thread on my own pallete design.

Jal I noticed your whirpool thing and I thought it kinda tied in with my theme of ancient greece. It reminds me of a section of the Odyssey where the ships get swept down the whirlpool. Just an idea...

This is what a refined and unified palette is all about. Color conservation in pixelart works wonders.

I made that tile especially to fit with your Ancient theme AND the Alice tile below it. I think adding a ship or anything going down the whirlpool would have killed it so I left it alone.

Yes yes! That would be amazing!!! Indeed I have several more-than-1-tile ideas flying around, though I don't know if they appeal to you. And they may suffer from tile avaliability.

Such as C'Thun from world of warcraft;

Millenium Falcon from SW;

A crashed biplane (though it would need to be moved to 1 tile below due to the upper post);

other ideas may be a Rancor vs. Luke Skywalker scene or a volcano.

If you've got anything I'm totally up for it as well.

@Jinn; thanks!

@Gecimen, I think it all should to be kept inside 2 tiles. I don't like the C'Thun idea since there are already several 'eye' looking things. Millenium Falcon is not underground as is a biplane :/ Maybe something Megaman or Metroid is better? Can't think of other really good game refs.

Its no problem :) You can go into the area in-between the tile however, just not into 23um's actual tile. Maybe a3um will color the missing pixels when you are done if you ask him and he agrees,k.

That's fine Jalonso, I used a3um sketch.
I also though about drawing someone at the edge of the cliff, ready to jump in the a3um 's monster mouth...

And also, for ideas, maybe someone could make a setting like those in Gears f War 1 or 2, since lots of things happen underground in these games...

, if anyone is planing on taking a neighboring tile(7 and 8), here is my final WIP for the structure(tile #15).  Now it's time to color this thang.

For tile 7 and 8, I am leaving the edges open for whatever.  Also, I have a question, for my black outline of the tile, are these pixels mine or my neighbors?

Edit: They are mine...duh

@Jalonso; I'm a PC gamer and haven't really played any of these games but I know a little about them. IMO megaman does not really fit the concept of this collab but as far as I know Metroid and GoW has some real cool bosses. So does Shadow of the Colossus...

So, I've made a small research about underground-themed bosses. Here are several options you may wish to choose from or maybe bring something to your mind.

Game names:

Zelda..............................................Super Metroid..........................Shadow of the Colossus..................Gears of War...............................World of Warcraft

I chose these from hundreds of options I've seen and these are some of the ones I'd love to pixel.
It doesn't have to be a boss though, it could be a vehicle or base or city w/e. Please tell me what you think. I'm not gonna let you dodge this :) (just kidding of course, please do tell me if you don't like to do it).

@JC Denton; very cool improvement. It looks complete except a crocodile tail or w/e.

@Jinn; amazing stuff...

@Pandora'sSecret, #10 is yours but you should probably ignore #3 as he has never posted again and that tile break a few rules. It is salted to be removed on Oct10th.

@Jinn, ooh, nice and green

@Shampoop, thanks.

@Gecimen, hmmmm, dunno yet...another big boss/monster???...why not BigDaddy?...hmmmm...how about Myst?

@Jinn; just awesome...

@Jalonso; not insisting on a boss. It's just that I thought bosses reference the game they belong the most usually. Big Daddy from Bioshock? Yea, sure why not? It's an excellent design. Myst is a lovely game but what exactly is in your mind? A tower maybe?

I slightly updated tile #19 to define the sphere a bit more (blue/green border). It bugged me a lot and I don't know if this is enough, but I know this is better and it doesn't destroy the background.

@kenpokis, added Jinn's tile to main pic. This should help you out a lot :)

@Gecimen, I know bosses are best. I'm just wondering if this has too many monster/bosses already. Myst just came up randomly cuz I was thinking landscape instead of creatures :/ What two tiles are you thinking of using? Maybe that will help.
I'll add your tweaked tile next update.

@LuckyF; Hmm I was thinking about the interior of Predator's underground lair (or spaceship), and yes an alien lair with human cocoons would be cool but I doubt it's as large to require a multi-tile collab? Btw, what do you think about joining us for a 3-tile thing?

@Jalonso; I'm totally OK with a construction. Or even if we do a boss we can do it with it's surroundings. Which tiles to choose? 4-11; 31-24; 40-44; 40-48; 51-44; 63-53 seem to be all the possibilities. Among these 51-44 is the most free one and they don't neighbour other tiles from either of us.

There might be something in the Lord of the Rings universe, like the Balrog, Arachne, or the Bridge of Khazad-dûm.

@Jalonso : in the Myst series, not much is happening underground ...
Maybe the Scarab room of Riven, or the Age of Spire from Myst 4...

From Gears of War 2 :
or or

Well I'm up for anything that shows itself, but I really don't think a "room" requires more than 1 tile. I think it needs to be something with a single body: like a structure, object, creature or vehicle. It's up for Jalonso to decide which. I'm gonna keep researching and come up with more ideas.

I refined tile #19 a bit more, removed that blue/green border as it overwrote some of the BG and instead inserted a thin white inner-glow. Also I refined the metal plates.

@Gecimen: Nice, but the sphere blends in to the background a bit too well, why not try to find a way to create a better contrast. Here's an example with an outline and stronger glow-reflection. (Such an outline should probably be a bit thinner/weaker than my rough example). Maybe a bit more blue in the shadows could also help separating the sphere from the yellow/red surroundings?

@DB; that's what I'm trying but an outright outline doesn't match the style of other two tiles. Furthermore I don't think there's such a need in the upper part as the eye catches the green/gray tones easily along with the neighbour tiles. Maybe I can try to put a slight outline on the lower side.

@Jal; I'm happy to do a Metroid theme 2-part thingy with you. How about something involving a Chozo statue?

No boss there, neither a huge artifact filling the whole square. Just a regular cave thing with a Chozo statue and/or some enemies + a metroid?
Without me, it's just aweso

@Gecimen, We've made tiles in most areas so we're kinda forced into the top right area. Maybe once a few tiles go up there we can call the tiles? It makes no sense to collab with two tiles if it isn't one 'thing' being made. Otherwise its just single tiles that meet and need no collabing. I'm not feeling anything yet tho.
@Club Beuker, I'd rather not make too many tiles so if you wish to collab with Gecimen instead of me or with someone else it would be even better. I'd much rather not make anymore tiles, tbh.

So yeah, no tiles for me, for now.

Cthulhu is something I thought about but again so many tentacles already exist. Castlevania, Pokemon(Jaker Pot) and PoP (LuckyF) are possible ideas too if other's don't make these. I want to wait for now...Its just not happening for me atm.

I have a few ideas but I'm holding off for now.  (Working on my color study)  Maybe near the end of the collab or if someone drops out.  See how it goes (still watching very closely though).

Still waiting for tile 56 so I can make a few changes to #63.
hehe (ಠ_ಠ ) o_- :p

Bla bla bla, everybody knows that tentacles are never enough. BTW, Cthulhu has big badass wings too.
If someone do it, he should be HUGE, like 3 tiles long =p
(like the big tmnt thing you guys made)

I will have to decide what to do in my tile!
Aliens, Pokemon or R'Lyeh?
