What is it doing?
Is so very hard to understand?
Is it wet and that's why you need legs?
What's with the Aladdin shoes o.O

#1 tip will be to look at reference. Like this one. (1st url) Or this one. (2nd url)

Notice in the first one that there are some fairly right angles where the robe goes straight down, meets the ground, and lays flat. The second one is shorter, so there's less excess material, but the robe still creates an irregular shape at the bottom instead of a sharp cutoff. Now considering how little real-estate you're working with in such low resolution, and given that sprites often have to fit their surroundings in less than realistic ways (like in a game), you may not be able to copy this effect exactly. But you can still probably imply it in some way.

You could also have a shorter robe with less fabric, which would give you less drapings, like this. (3rd url)

Well, PJ and links don't cooperate very well. Here's what I was trying to link:

It doesn't look bad at all, don't be so hard on yourself, it reads clearly as a hooded figure

Most people tell me when I'm stuck to look up references for what you're trying to do, you want a cloth texture, so where you should start are pixel images of robed characters, I selected some characters from my favorite game, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

All images were taken from :

http://www.castlevaniacrypt.com/img/sotn/sprites

who took their images from the game

5 different types of shrouds, hopefully you can take something from these, if not, there is always google at your disposal, good luck

No problem, glad to help

The big purple is Death, the little one is just a random enemy

Its getting better but maybe its too twisty and looking like a tree trunk:/

If you will keep a black BG then consider floating the sprite a little at least on the top :)

Gonna make a small enviorment for this guy. maybe some cathedral. i Just always start with a 50 * 50 for my sprites ^^ and this guy needed all the space.

And yeah now that you say it. it really does look like tree trunk hah. well now i know how to do that :b

Edit: but i see what you mean with the need of space. it didint do it as much in photoshop. but on the forums it really "flattens" the the top part and the bottom

The walls like cobbles to me, something I expect to see on the ground rather than in walls, so I keep reading this as the character lying on the floor xP

The lighting on the character changes as the torch moves, but the lighting on the wall doesn't, which looks weird.

The biggest issue to me, though, is that the character barely stands out from the wall. The character, torch, and wall all have the same range of values. Try restricting the background to using only half the values, or at least using the more intense values (e.g. the brighter lights, if you want to keep the image mostly dark) very sparingly.

Ahh thanks for the feedback man yeah the wall actully looks like ground now that you say it.

And i'll try making the wall less "detailed" that might make it fall more in with the background

Dont worry about the lights not moving on the wall :) only reason i havent animated the light on the wall yet is because i'm not happy with the wall yet ^^

Try aligning the stones on the wall horizontally, since that arrangement is easier to build. That might help it read more like a wall.

Have you tried suggesting the glow of the torch by using the lights on the background, instead of having those artificial-looking circles? It could look really good.

Ahh yeah only problem is that i did it on the same layer as my torch. so in order to do that i would have to erase it but i can give it a go real quick ^^

And forgot to say thanks ^^ sorry
