First off, these are really great and so on. Pretty much what everyone else said.
But I really don't like how noisy the forest level looks, especially noticable with a bit of zooming. It's in the blue roof and the foliage mainly. It just looks grungy, busy, and doesn't feel polished. The same sort of shading shows up a lot in your work I've noticed and the whole look of it just seems strange to me. Then I see the rooftop level and it's completely opposite. Clean lines, clean shading, although I'm not a fan of those black lines and think you could've done more with the pixels they're taking up. |

Blick, Thanks for the very concise comment. The Bg will use the
parallex effect and I felt that cleaner lines made leaves look too
jaggy when moving so I dirtied them up to create the desired effect
when playing rather than for this static view. The roof I left grungy
to visually blend in. I will review seriously when I revisit the piece
tomorrow.

I must agree with Blick about the amount of pixel noise going on in these backgrounds. However, it seems to work well in certain parts. The forest level rooftop, for example, works really well with this seemingly messy style. Althought I would change the black dithering under the forest platforms to something a little neater looking. Overall though, you've shown yourself as a brilliant atmospheric artist. Thats rare in pixel works. Great stuff man! PS: Oh, and no offense, but I'd try to find yourself a better sprite artist. Those sprites really don't reflect your pixel skills. |

I have redrawn/de-scrappified the entire forest anf the tiled roof. I
also removed the fencing and most of the "crazy" dithering Blick/iSTVAN
referred to. I also redrew the water fall. What do you think.

I think i much preffered the older one.
The waterfall in this one also looks like treacle to me... Great work though, but i think i just liked the older one more.

The older background trees showed depth(minus the leaves, the newer ones leaves look a lot better), though I never understood why they got lighter as it went further back, as usually the foreground is the most lit, and the background desaturates and/or darkens.
The waterfall looks like it's stuttering now, maybe you didn't finish the animation though. There's no smooth movement of the water. Edited by Dusty |

I liked the older trees. The waterfall is looking better, but not as realistic. It looks more like the sparkles are flowing than the water. Did Gas13's example not work well? Going excellent so far, though. Awesome stuff. |

new version. Re Scrappified the roof and brought back the orgasm inducing trees.
![]() Aleiav, Yes, sorry, that waterfall did help but is too graphic as a style for this. UI mockups and elements ![]() |

Not sure which trees I liked better, but I'm glad you kept SOME scrappiness to the building. The game menus and sh*t are looking great so far!

If no further glaring errors are noticed this is the final version. The
main thing I did here was add more noise and subdued the water fall and
added the lighting to the lamps.

The waterfall looks like slowly growing moss with sparkles on it. The rest is perfect, though. |

Good grief, will someone make an edit of the waterfall (3 frames) to
show me a different take on it? If you do please don't add colors take
from the roof tiles, mkay.

So the competition deadline is upon me and I must decide on a final waterfall. They are not perfect, but which is best.
![]() @Bifur, The trees cannot shadow the roof because the forest is four different layers designed to move at different speeds. White is not an option because the lighting of the scene calls for no white. Btw, this entire waterfall madness is your fault for having suggested it in the first place :p |
