This camo pattern looks great. You totally missed what I was saying about moving the pattern as the planes of the train move toward and away from the viewer :/

Hey there guys, just updating a little bit.  Proceeding slowly on the locomotive so I decided to work on background elements.  Feast your eyes on this.  And there is more to come.  Also, please note that I have not yet put in all shadowing (soldier, etc.)  I will get to those.  This is just rough at the moment.

Real nice layout. I don't like the brick pattern on the red roofs tho, where it meets the chimmney looks particularly poor. I would think it would also be more interesting is the bricks on the building edges stuck out by at least one pixel so that the sides are not so straight. Same goes for the rear building where the floor divisions just stop at the edge.

Remove the gradients on the windos though, that just adds too many unnesecary colours

Hey there guys, sorry for the long delay.  Work is progressing on the diorama but its a bit big to post on PB.  Until I find a site that is as easy to use and can handle larger file sizes, I will have to post the work in sections.  Here is a couple tanks that will be loads on the train.  They both have camo but I want some C+C on the basic versions for now.  Mainly to do with shadows, etc.  Thanks!

Here is the current version.  I have to link it because of the size.

P.S:  Yeah yeah, I know there are elements that are not pixel art  Those are all temporary filler until I can figure out how to do them pixel by pixel.

Due to a problem I had, my latest work is gone.  I am currently trying to redo what I lost but the backgrounds are gone.  Oh well, I will press on.  Take care

Hello again, sorry for a lack of updates.  I have been recovering from losing the latest work and believe I have a better version in the works.  I hope to have an update soon.  Cheers!

Merry Xmas!

Yeah. above the bump lol sorry.  I didnt create a new reply, just an edit.  Here is the finished camo.  It is alright I think.  It should suffice.  Also here is my reference for most of it.

How does one make a realistic pine tree for a side shot such as mine?  I have tried but so far have come up short.  Any ideas would be most welcome.  Thanks again.

Is there a size limit on the forum?  When I try to put the pic under my update, its all squashed?  If anyone knows how to get around it, please let me know.  Thanks alot.  Also, feel free to critique my pic (linked in above message).  Take care!

I don't really know anything to say about the train, but I'd suggest adding some depth to the background.  Also, the guy driving the train is orange.  The soldiers are really stiff as well.  Hey, what is this for again?  That's pretty much all I can comment on right now.  You've obviously put a lot of work into it.

Thanks for the advise.  What things do I need to do to add more depth?  The pic is mainly for my enjoyment and others.  Its not for a game or anything.  I just like to draw. As for the soldiers, Ive tried my best and thats what I got lol.  Unless someones out there who can help me out that is... Anyhow, TTYL!

well, in order to make the train pop more, I'd use less saturated colors on the houses in the background, and especially on the mountains.  Those should be very faint, you've defined the edges too much.
Also, you should get rid of the black outlines in the background.  And lower the amount of details - you don't need to outline every single brick, and shingle.  Try to use textures to imply those details, but don't ephasize them all.

And I don't know if this would be possible, but I'd strongly advise you to get rid of the smoke.  But unless you have it on a separate layer it'd be a huge pain in the ass to remove.

I'll try to make an edit of the soldiers for you, but I'm not too great at anatomy myself..

Ok...how would I create the essential component of a steam locomotive without smoke.  It is indeed on a seperate layer so editing isnt hard.  Also, what outlines are you referring to?  Thanks though for your suggestions, they are appreciated!

Yeah, I know smoke is important, but it just doesn't look aesthetically pleasing right now.

And I was talking about the black outlines on the houses in the background, and all the outlines on the details like roof shingles and bricks and such.  You should try to suggest those details with shading and textures rather than outline

I am so behind in skills lol.  Shading is not my strong point.  Anyone out there know of tutorials for buildings textures, shading, etc?  If so, I am here to learn.

I feel stupid.  There doesnt seem to be anything there that I can do just yet...Textures for one, Im not too confident about doing that.  Ive seen samples of what I can do but I have no clue of how to replicate and do it.  If anyone is willing to teach me, I would love it.  Thanks and take care!
