"Create a sprite of a non-human animal with some of its body replaced by man-made parts."
I read sprite as a game asset and MrBeast and another pixel already submitted don't seem to be 'sprites' to me... I am going to get the challenge Mod to clarify this. |

Transparency is required, thus no background should be allowed. It does say sprite, therefor the pixel that has been submitted and MrBeasts' current work do not follow the rules. That's just my opinion.

Sprites can be very large. Plus the max canvas is 128x128, so...
Tee hee I know what I'm making. |

it is a sprite, the background is just so I don't have the distracting grey/dark grey checkerboard pattern.
The mist was just to see, won't be included in the final picture. Edited by MrBeast - 31 December 2012 at 4:08pm |

Hey, I'm new to pixel art too and wanted to have a go at this. Could you help me out? I'm not entirely too sure what is meant by transparency in pixel art and was wondering if someone could explain it to me. I'm sure it's something easy, I just can't find a proper explanation anywhere!

Taking a break from other projects to do a weekly challenge. Hopefully I'll have time to finish this one up, along with a walk animation.

That means a transparent background like this piece shows. Edited by jalonso - 01 January 2013 at 4:56pm |

I have a question : when it's wrote "with some of its body
replaced by man-made parts", it means that it must be a part already existing of his body (for exemple an arm or a leg), so we can't add something like wings, am I right ? I ask it because I started a winged-gorilla, so I don't want to be too frustrated to have worked on it if I can't submit it when I'll finish ^^

I'd say a winged gorilla is just right for this one.

VERY rough sketch of my entry. I am redoing it since the old one sucked.

I'm not sure I can finish this...It's a mechanical bull. I really don't like how the metal looks though. Figured I would just post to show how far I got before I gave up lol..I'm pretty sure it exceeds 128x128 as well. Edited by FlyGuy - 02 January 2013 at 10:39am |

Also I like the different ideas of entries, I'm in a hurry to see how it will progress. @FlyGuy : I like your idea, but indeed your picture's too big... Otherwise I like the texture and the colors of the metal but I think that it seems a bit too straight, wereas the legs are very fluids. Edited by kaze19th - 02 January 2013 at 4:41pm |

Thank you though. good luck on the challenge |

I would drop it, shade in flat colors with no transition, and then would try spending some time looking for a good way to represent scales. - Harsher contrast would definitely help it pop out to look much less flat. |

EDIT: Made some changes. ![]() I prefer this one, the color change did much in favor of contrast and the sword now looks much better, one thing I would change is the dark part of the top fin (on the head), looks too dark considering the light. And I would detail a little bit more the eye... anyway, great job! Edited by co_Opernicus - 05 January 2013 at 11:42am |

Hello everyone, first post here.
I'm very new to pixel art. I love this site; a friend gave me the link two days ago after I've been beating my head against the wall in trying to make graphics for a game, and after looking over others' art I'm kinda suddenly starting to get it! It is a nice feeling! :D Anyway I thought to try making a kangaroo mouse for this challenge. Any suggestions are welcome. I know the fur really could use a different texture from the metal, but dithering still makes me cry like a little girl.

And I was the one who recommended this site to Baconus Maximus! As for me, I decided to quickly throw something together to enter... but I need to learn patience, not to mention general art skill. So, here's the result:

A LOT of the skills transfer, it feels like cheating in a way. Being limited in colors and resolution is surprisingly very fun. |
