The lineart is coming out interesting. That grey shading is not pixelart tho. Doesn't look all that old to me

That depends on how well you use the colors.  Its as much about usage as it is quantity.  And absolutely no NPA is allowed, for the record.  I await your progress.

Why not start with the face/skin first. That will tell you how many colors are required on the hair. If you end up with say 5 colors for the skintones, then you can use up to 5 colors on the hair. Play with it.
Blurring is a major NO-NO in pixelart.

PS: Please read the dates on threads, If its over 1 week old DO NOT COMMENT. You are new here and n00b attacks will come your way. ThereIsNoCure just bitched at you and you did it again. Believe me he does get nastier than that. So go pixel, mkay.

I like the style of the lineart so far. Aside from what was already mentione about the hair, I would reccommend making the bigger eye rounder instead of octagonal. The harsh angles look really odd to me.

You're tracing over a picture. The divides in the hair are very anti-aliased... like a picture. Unless you did all that anti-aliasing.

If it's not your picture you're drawing on top of, you shouldn't be doing this.

edit: unless you're pixelling overtop something you drew with tools... also a possiblity. Are you drawing over top of something?

He already stated that it's been blurred. It's not a trace.

And I have to say the blurring only makes the piece look worse, I'd prefer to see you actually put texture in by hand.

I think this has some interesting promise. I must say however, that the dithering completely ruins it for me, stay away from the dithering. There are other problems but i don't feel like going into it all now.

Dithering is used to blend two colors, often in place of antialiasing. It is not, however, intended for a fill or as an extra shade for a flat surface, generally. Add a color or two to replace some of the dither in large areas, or just use a shade you already have.

RPG is numberwang.

I don't see why it couldn't be used as another shade. It doesn't bother me, the dithering. We could take a look at Helm's Spartan for 'zamples of dithering to fill a flat surface, couldn't we?

If YOU don't think so then nothing else matters. It's your piece, own it.
Will you be removing the color black? I would suggest you do. dark grey for hair, dark brown for skin. I like it and the dithering is not bad but shading like you've done on the hair looks better. Maybe you can blend the shades with a little dithering if that is a skill you are working to improve on. What will become of the eyes? This overall linart has the look of a piece of Quartz crystal. You could make the flesh more crystally and maybe have jewels for eyes. picture it on a cave wall where this crystal is embedded in the rock wall, maybe

That reminds me sooooo much of my grandpa! |P

Cool stance/composition!
Body armor needs some perspective, IMHO.
Will you draw over the mirrored hand?

Keep goin!

Also, I notice some strange color choices on the face that look as if it was pasted into an image with conflicting palette and colorreduced. If you made these as separate parts and combined, redo it with a full 16.whatever million color palette then save as a better format.

i'd suggest you create a more fluid pose. this guy fails to bend his arms

and what's up with the mirroring and weird oversized pix3ls? and his armour looks like old windows buttons or something, not using any perspective or whatever
to be honest, there isnt much depth in the pixture anywhere

and the pose is very odd, the placement of the guns requires the guy to bend over, but in turn they offer no form of balance whatsoever, and his back should be bent more and his knees lower

he allso misses a lot of neck/shoulder area, or the arm connects way to high with the body

come to think of it its pretty much a lot =/

you want me to sketch you your good work better?

chess, these people ARE trying to help you. Rethink how you're dealing with it. If you can't recieve critisism politely i suggest you try hard to now. Post your next update and start a clean slate with the members. Explain your image so that no one is confused by parts of it, as in the last one.

Ok. See if you an make those chest plates curve with the ody underneath. Armor is curved to is hugs the body and takes up less space. A dart of missle can easly pierce a flat surface where a convex surface provides more of a challange. Also See if you can't cut a boot out of that cinderblock of a foot. He should cast off the baby pajama pants for shoes and pants. The face llloks like something off a disney movie see if you can't fix the structure a bit. He has little room for a brain with the skull shape. Overall I do see soe willingness to learn. Chess you were almost banned yesterday and the image locked. If you disagree with a critique you don't have to do it but please thank the poster for their time. People want to help others improve and soetimes newer folks arn't used to harsh critiques.

yes right the boots arent good..cause i dont started them^^.

i hope that his trousers are good enough i find it hard to do a wrinkled one.

i dont understand the thing with the armory really good!?
uhm.. must the chest got more mass?
the edges must be smoothe or what did u mean?

i will go pixel later and try to make it how usaid it!

i started the boots but i want to know wether the one i made is good enough. if true i will made the other one.

i editet the lenght of the skull.

he is a bit drunken so i made the nose red.. good!?!?

the m79`s in his hands are provisional but the skale is thereabout the right.

i dont know what to do with the face i like it so far but if it showes bad somebody must say that.

Chess, I think you're doing a good job with the constructive criticisms people gave you, and I do think some of these people were a little too harsh in the things they said. I'm glad you're still working on it! It's improving a lot! Don't give up on it, man.

The face is looking a lot better, and I think the armor will improve as you continue to round out those very sharp angles.

One other small criticism: I think the arm on the right (his left) could use some kind of line or shadow in the middle to show where the joint is. Maybe even with a slight curve in the arm, so it's curving outward (like the elbow is sticking out just a liiiiittle bit). Our arms and legs aren't 100% straight even when we're holding them straight.

I'd take a look at snader's edit more closely. It's good that you've rounded the chestplates but now they look like rounded squares. I'd try your best to curve it more, like snader's edit shows.
