New Piece,
Still new at shading, I don't think it's too terrible for the first time, but please tell me what you think, and I'd realllly appreciate some pointers!

Hi austin!
I would remove the face for the time being and focus on getting the shading of the orange--which is a simple sphere--just right. This would be excellent shading practice for you I think. It will really help if you look at reference photos or 3D renders (do a Google images search for "sphere") or heck, even just go and get an orange out of your fruit basket. Though I would not attempt to duplicate the beautiful bumpy texture on the skin of an orange; use it only to see how light and shadow play on a spherical object. A the moment the major flaw in your shading is that the highlights and shadows are only present on the edges. As you'll notice when you start to look at references and draw from life, this is characteristic of bevel and it instantly flattens your 3D object. EDIT: Also, dither always always always comes last, if at all. Dither is very time-consuming, and if you're not 100% certain you're not going alter your shading, you'd do best to hold off. and a bit off topic but still relevant: try to use a less exagerated signature. we tend to prefer ones that are not as distracting or unnecesary big as the one you have, so we can focus more on what you wrote.

Okay, I did an example of a sphere, with the light source directed at the face of it, what can be improved?

I'd pick a more interesting direction for the light source, to be honest.

There is a difference between "pillow shading" and a frontal light source. The only exception is a perfect spheroid.
