You need to clean up the lines, keep them a constant thickness and not jaggy. The walk would be better if the head were animated too. Or the legs didn't jump so abruptly, keep the spacing more even.
Also, more contrast and less unnecessary colors on that sprite. Edited by ThereIsNoCure - 02 September 2008 at 3:39pm |

You have very serious problems with your pixelart and they are all in your settings and preferences and some very bad habits or possibly just not knowing the way of the pixel.
When I opened your file Photoshop encountered extra data from Fireworks in addition that your file was a png24 with thousands of colors. You have scaled the clouds and possibly other items too on the landscape. This is NOT pixelart and is the reason the clouds look bad. There is no scaling pixelart. Your prefs must have auto AA or smoothing interpolation (?) or something not cool for sure. This is evidenced in the circled areas. Hit the image to zoom in and see details. Pixelart= hardcore opaque pixels only. No tool usage, scaling, twisting, etc. One pixel at a time, all the time. The resource section has a thread about setting up Photoshop for pixelling. ![]() ps: when you update an image for the PJ gallery you do not have to submit a whole new version. Use the 'edit details' to upload the revised version. pss: why are you even making a flat BG anyhow when you can easier assemble it as symbols within Flash? ![]() Hi Thank you for your feedback and, taking the time to download the image and make notes where it needed improving. I finally had a chance to make 1st start on some of the changes from your feedback you recommend. I hope you like the first change! As I am still very new to flash games and pixel art the Games are based on tutorials from Both authors use flat back ground image, for their platform
games but foreground elements are separate i.e. walls, floor,
characters Both authors used the same method for the background so it
seemed acceptable to design my game in the same. The file is now a PNG 8 with 7 colours for this image,
I found out this was recommend format for pixel art from the book
"Character Design for Mobile Devices: Mobile games, sprites and pixel
art" It really brilliant book on pixel art very worth reading!
Look forward your feedback on the 1st image change once this
one ok, I start work on next one. Thank you for your great help! Edited by Tingo Pixels - 13 September 2008 at 6:05am |
