So, the other day I started a small edit to show some iso point I was trying to make that made no sense to me, lol.
It will now become something...

This looks really good so far. The strong lighting provides a dramatic mood and the colors are delicious. I can't wait to see what comes of this.

Looks like something you'd see a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. For some reason "a hive of scum and villainy seems to come to mind." XD

Looking good so far.

Should you really be taking on projects this big at your age? I'd hate to see you go down with an unfinished project :(

Wow, it's looking really great!

I'm hoping you'll remove the outlines on the buildings, because they don't currently fit the style of the rocks.

Great piece so far!

Haha this is great rustbug inspiration :P
How did i miss this?
When i saw that update my heart fluttered with joy, it's a great route you're taking.
Try not to just highlight the edges/corners of the rocks, we need to see some flat planes highlighted too (that said from looking at the seemingly more rendered rocks) but i expect you knew and are planning on doing that anyway.

All i can say is good luck then! :) I'll keep watch.

Well, black outlines are just evil, in my humble opinion.
So I suppose you are planning to color them, and refine the ones of the gears.
The lightsource of the lower big metal pear looks different, I think there should be a shadow projected by the rock; the pipes on the left looks illuminated in a strange way.
My my opinion help you, good job!

I think that this is some sort of factory and can use some sort of oil

this is what I think when see yestarday - one full cycle:

in lake can put fountain and some strange enviropment or maybe some sort of mutants which going from the lake hahaha

than in pump station region can put many mechanisms - mutants can attack mechanizms :)

between first cuiltivation and pumps can add pipes which are connected to the produce area

front part of the mountain will be free for some holes with guards. They are over storage area and can watch all areas.

I think that must need some air between mountain and produce area.

PS
small chimney are very small to start from the ground if you want them must be over some structure.

Circles and 5 containers in front part are nice, but they close the picture and this 5 containers which are repeated in front part I think that they aren't good choice because when see work first what somebody see is that area.

be shure that I'll watch topic ;)

Sorry, but I have problem to upload work over 1024 x /I'm not test 768/ in Photobucket, because he smash her :( I have that problem with one my old work :(

Thanks guys, I am headed in the 'mad scientist, steampunk factory' direction.
I think making a very homey Victorian facade that hides all the sinister action is the way to go. The factory will be run by droids :D
Started the main building from scratch trying to work out the balance between the cutesy idyllic exterior with the madness inside.
I am now working on a grass maze which is just the secret entrance to the factory.

PS:... the old main building was very....umm.. "undetailed" for you.. thats what I was thinking.

Anyways great job so far!

Your color choices are always interesting, and usually work.  However, the turquoise pops a bit too much in certain areas of the building (typically when it's near the greenish-beige).  It works fine in the rest of the piece though.

@cure, I too see the turquoise problem, I'll have to leave tweaking that shade for later. I think I really need it for the rusty metals.
@zi, are the corners of the Greenhouse correct? the ends I mean.

i do see too that the turquoise is taking too much space from the rest of the colors... not blending very well with its surroindings(even when its supposed to denote tehe rustyness of the metals). try to aim for a more orange/greenish color. also, you should try to get more brows/sepia colors in that greenhose. if everything has to be this "rusted" or abandoned look, it totally needs more dead nature on its exterior.

also, the pipe on the roof looks way too clean in comparision with the rest of the rusted metals of the picture.

It really doesn't feel good to edit your work... But the colors you used felt even worse for me.

I know its supposed to look rusty and dusty and dirty, but this just isn't a pleasure to look at (which means you did a great job on realism ;) )

The only colors I really like are the blue ones you used on the building next to the maze. For the rest, I can't say I like them.

I was not able to get my self to enormous color changes, I think it would have been harder then to get the right colors at the end. However with only small changes I wasn't able to get exactly the image I would have liked. Still I think its a tiny improvement.

I noticed you use a lot of saturation on very weird places. For example: Your darkest blue and red were very very saturated. I changed them at first.
Underneath the building there is those 2 greens. A very dark and next to it a very light one. I lessened the contrast there.
I removed some of the orange spots on the walls too.

At the end I even removed 3 or 4 colors, and of course I did a lot of other things too but I cant remember them all.

I really liked the colors of those rocks in the beginning! Please make your building look dirty without it being dirty. Or is that impossible what I just said?
Well there is only one way to find out. And I think using warm colors would be the best way to achieve that. (Why didn't I think of that when I was editing your colors? Too late -_-)

I hope you appreciate my efforts :)

Lollige

While I don't think your palette is bad, I do prefer jal's original.  Just my vote.

I do feel, however, that the current red used in the shadows of jal's is too saturated.

Right one is my favorite, except for that the blue house could be more between the original and the 'revamped' one

I'm partial to the middle, but the right has nice high contrast. Some of the shadows on the house in the left one look too washed out.

I'm for second variant - because green is near to the blue - and when have shadows they are with green/blue colours. In first green is too light in third shadows going too dark.

Nice that remove big silo in front part - it's nice but maybe can use him to fill area in back plan somwhere.

I'm afraid for that "room" in front part - I understand that she is like entrance, but why somebody will make two doors with that antechamber!

Main building is great, as I say :) Just second floor maybe must a bit high /maybe because if put metal door from third floor over second he will touch the ceiling of the second/, but I'm shure that you will put so many details and this isn't important ...

@zi, that's the secret entrance. You go to the statue, press the eyes in the correct sequence and the the door hidden by the grass can be opened. The you open the regular door with the super uber cool steampunk computer by the door

I started to fix colors and had to re-pixel from scratch. totally new palette

Until watch work with that grey/brown colours I think for some Nazi factory because theyr uniform are with grey/brown. Just idea for some "mad scientist, steampunk nazi factory' with some old type of dark green trucks and machines and some droids like some fantasy scene near to real world.
Blue building in left - skylight are too small maybe must think for some other type of 3 small roofs, also the building is too low and if make some person near to her will have problem with scale.

All new parts are great ...

I love you Jal :P besides being cool its a nice reference for me... I only didnt get why are shadows extending to the bottom of rocks...isnt the light source from top light? And it doesn't appear like there is anything to block it... but I might be wrong

tnx Sabata :)
There will be machinery on the floor so shadows will be cast, eventually.
I am also changing the rocks colors to help the overall hi-contrast scene I'm going for. There will be walkways and tunnels and pipes among the rocks too...

...and the hangar for the flying zepellin, the stasis tanks, the clock tower, the car area and the boat :)
