this is a gatling gun. i think a spinning animation (2/3 lines flipping back and forth) would be easier to spot then a slight kickback. offcourse they can be combined together

@snader: Ahah yes, will be pretty hard to do with the little laser thing. I'll probs just give more of a kick, of sorts, to the laser. Then give some other enemy the gattling gun, cus it sounds awesome. Or perhaps the rustbug.. hmm.

Humbugz:
Cannon
- blast (standard weapon)
- homing missiles
- grenades
Energybeam
- zap (the one you've all been seeing lately, slightly stronger against machines than the cannon blast, but weaker against monsters)
- beam (would cut across the screen in a thick ...beam, although dissapates when it hits an enemy or wall)
Laser
- cut (cuts across screen like the beam but in a thinner line, can cut through doors)
Blade
- stab (strongest close combat weapon against monstArs)
Drill
- drill (drills through walls and can also be used as a close combat weapon)
Tesla Coil
- fry (strongest close combat weapon against MACHINES)
EMP
- emp blast (stuns enemies?)
Flamethrower
- fire spray (standard flamethrower thing)
- fire bombs (like molotov cocktails)

ok, so ive only done the fire so far, so tell me what you think of that, and then i need ideas on the look of the weapon and the movement for the rustbug. cheerzz.

might i suggest having him bend over a bit and then sprayin, then  bringing the flame up again? (so he flames the ground first, and then the enemies that are further away. and add lots of secondary light to it offcourse =P

What i mean is that , flametrhowers work with gas, gas burn blue in the start and end yellow without black part ( unless it burns something)

the normal ones at least thats why i said that , urs could be different

@Quickie: You're right, but it could spoil the slight cartoonish nature of it. I might give it a go but i can't promise anything. And also, i'm thinking of having something like that to come underneath it to show the flamethrower is equipt or roundabouts. Cheers for the reference etc.
@Bifur: I still dont really understand it, so i think i'll leave it. Thanks for trying though.

I thought it looked a little strange in your original how the flame kinda got sucked back into the thrower, so I made a little change to show how I think it should appear.
Note that I didn't change any of your pixels, all I did was changing the position of the flame in frames 12 to 19.

Thanks to inspiration by snader's green hair and Shark's persistance there will be a new weapon!!! OMGZZ! Will be called 'toxic spray' or something jazzy like that and will be the same to monsters as the EMP is to machines. Sort of. Will update when i can.

i only have Gmaker, so no looping, if someone could make it loop, ktnxbye =)

this should illustrate what i meant though, first bending, then spraying upwards and lastly stop spraying and sliding back forward (yeah i gave him kickback =P on a flamethrower)spraying up even higher (twice the height of the bug perhaps?), but i'm way to lazy to animate it all the way up.

oh yeah. sorry for the sloppy edit =P

edit: oh yeah i forgot. give it some burning residue on the ground, like napalm

Well, been working with a test game engine since Monday, but due to unrelenting school work, I am only able to give to you all a screenshot of the engine in action.  There aren't any ingame enemies featured in the shot though, been working on stabilizing the engine for Rustbug.

After it is ready, I may start to gather a development team for things like Music & Sounds, and whatever else may be needed; depending on whether Larwick gives it the goahead though.  A development site would be kool as well, but all of this will be addressed in the future.

@Demon: thanks dude, i appreciate it. i'll have to get you some proper background 'tiles', seeing as all you've got so far are the mockup screens. I should have them by tomorow.
And yeah, MotD is our sound guy. I think Fil and Monkeyspork have kindly given you the front seat for coding. So we sorta have a team now, heheh. A development site would be cool, but it could slow things down, seeing as we already have this WIP thread. If you were able to get one going without any fuss it wouldn't be a bad thing though.
@Murrman: yes! that would most probably make it. I'll try and get some sort of ignition flame onto it when i edit. I'm pretty sure it's right aswel.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. I havent been able to do much recently because of work and my social life but i should be free tomorow.

Lol, nice site Demon, very professional. Although i'd ask for some things to be changed, i'll talk to you later about it.

I just woke up but i'm currently working on the background tiles for you, so i'll get them done in about an hour or so, then get onto sorting out the tank and flamethrower animation.

Cheers for the effort you've put in guys, it's getting quite promising.

Quite alot of changes made, although each quite subtle. My favourite part is probably the flaming reflections, mmm yummy. If i'm daring i might redo parts of the flame to make it look more ferocious, but at the moment i'm pretty much happy with it. Hopefully you will be too, although i'm sure there are some things still to change.

hey, larwick what you should do next is a flying power up or a level where the rustbug and all the enemies are flying. where the back of the bug opens up like a beetle ang clear wings come out. at the end of the level the wings could be destroyed in some plot sequence to prevent loss of future level difficulty. i hope you catch what i am trying to say.

i would like to see the movement of the bug and other creatures to be some thing like the grass hopper from one of the metal slug games

The dev site looks really pro and I love the shiny flame reflections.(slightly illogical though, because rust usually doesn't make a shiny reflective surface, so it looks more like polished-varnish-bug now, but the effect is so cool that it doesn't matter)

Looks all very promising, I hope you keep up the motivation to take this to completion.

Hm...

On that one, I think he should put his head down, then shoot. In this version, he shoots as his head moves downward. The blast should start shooting downward, then pull up.

@Souly:  Nah, i just forgot. I mean, there could be many things. It could blink red or some other colour, it could become translucent for a second or it could physically jolt. I like the idea of actually getting knocked a bit, but i'll have to leave it till later on. Sorry to keep you waiting.

Update:

 (Note: the medium sized cannon isn't as pointy as that anymore and the huge cannon is highlighted better on the top.)
Yup, i'm a lazy arse, with revising and exams n' all ^_^ I havent started animating it yet. But i have updated it a fair amount, and i much prefer this look. A bit more metal-sluggish i think you'll agree. Also took out one of the cannon things. Owel. Animating as i speak... type.

Quite alot of changes made, although each quite subtle. My favourite part is probably the flaming reflections, mmm yummy. If i'm daring i might redo parts of the flame to make it look more ferocious, but at the moment i'm pretty much happy with it. Hopefully you will be too, although i'm sure there are some things still to change.

On that one, I think he should put his head down, then shoot. In this version, he shoots as his head moves downward. The blast should start shooting downward, then pull up.

this man says what i meant too! check the edit man! first it bends, for maximum shooting range, with minumum fueal usage. ( + looks cooler =P)
