Progress, please remind me again how to draw iso circles so I can continue the connected structure in the same way as in the presented sketch? Thanks!

Probably the most legit way, but they are shortcuts that will work better on smaller circles and when you practice them more. Search for tutorials and maybe you will find a method that works for you.

Did see that one but it looks really complicated though haha. I distinctly remember there being a much simpler method that was once posted on these forums I think, just having a bit of a tough time trying to recall how it went.

You mean this?

No, it was a step-by-step process like the first guide you posted but without utilizing so many shapes. Still struggling to remember but I think it was something like creating a square/rectangle then using the circle tool inside it to produce an iso circle.
EDIT: Just gave that a quick try, yeah think it went like that. Iso square/rectangle, then a circle tool covering the other shape and boom, iso circle. I could've sworn it was posted somewhere on the forums but I can't remember anymore lol.

The big tutorial I gave you is exactly that - iso square and then circle tool. All the steps are just to show exactly where to draw those circles. WHen you understand it and practice you will eb able to skip those steps becasue you already know more or less where to put circles.

But yes, as Gecimen said, if this is a flat iso circle (on the ground), just standard circle and 1/2 height will work.

Actually this was what I meant XD I remember there being a tutorial that was something like this, I believe. Crude example but eh.

EDIT: Got the disc thingy sorted. Think I will move the house right and/or up as now it's apparent that the other structure will take up some of the space in the corner, so I'd like to try and give it some breathing room.

@Gecimen: Looks absolutely fantastic!

@cjlm123: You're really knocking them out of the park! I really like the Bosch tile and the edge tile too. Those sea monsters on maps are so cool!

@Sazdx: Looks so much more interesting now. Very nice!

@Esven: Isn't it the weirdest thing? I find it hilarious.

@SeDiceBisonte: I'm so glad you liked my suggestion. This looks like it's coming along really well and will also be fun for someone to continue from.

Is it possible for me to claim #2? Irenaart seems to have gotten really far on her tile and I'll make sure to adapt the edge to her tile when it is done. If not, then #7 please. :)

What is the size of a single tile? I'm using a pixel art program that can't let me edit images. (Most likely to stop art theft.)

@Cjm123: I think your tile looks fantastic. My one concern is that you seem to be working more in a top down perspective (ala Zelda) than in an isometric view. Of course iso items on an angle will be seen "from the front" so it can be used, just something to be mindful of. Just using more 2.1 pixel lines in your cracked ground would help sell it.

Hmm, I made sure the foreshortening was consistent with a "square" drawn inside a 2x1 diamond, so the perspective should be correct, but I guess it's more of a stylistic matter that there's a preference for square objects to be on 1:2 slope?

Right, like I said things can be seen from the front so the gate is "technically" fine. If you google Isometric pixel art you'll see it is indeed done "on a slope". There is nothing currently in your tile (other than the fortress) that would suggest to me it is isometric since most the lines are parallel. Especially in the cracks where you are using diagonal lines instead which implies a planometric projection, just something to be mindful of.

The actual pixel work is very well done! Things like trees can be hard to represent in true iso so some cheating is fine there.

Uff. This took forever, and I have no idea why this tile sinked me in so much, but I'm done. Just left empty green on the top to add some texture here and there later, to merge better with Eggy's tile, or leave it if it will connect well.

cjlm123

This looks awesome. Let us comnnect better. I will try to make my stone base more fit to yours,a dn you add the door/huge window.

I agree with Reo that the pixel work is amazing, and I think that just two edits of the cracks could make it look less top down and more isometric.

EDIT:

Also I cann add a bit of water on bottom right, or you can finish it all smothly on your tile just under the small red tree. Both will be good so you decide.

I preffered the stone base of the castle to be brown (better composition), but white is good also so I can go for thatm if you insist :)

Wonderful! Tommorow I will add that water part and adjust both small stone wall parts to connect nicely with yours. If your water texture is still in progress maybe consider squashing it. It is a very diagonal pattern. Maybe could fit better to iso if made on 2:1 grid? Can’t wait to see those two tiles installed!

If this is really true, than you will have to change the program to participate in this collab. You cannot make an individual tile anymore (only first 10 claims can do that). Now you have to continue ideas of others and make your tile match edges with other already created tiles. In order to do that you have to download the collab image and edit it or it's part.

The Japanese section looks amazing (as does everything else–I've only really had time to stop doing other things and look at the collab properly this morning). I've always liked the appearance of Japanese castles and it's fun to have a couple of different castle types in here.

Dude, you nailed it sooo bad! This looks incredible! The little John's pose is badass. Also this road is beginning to take shape in entire collab now. The cart might get robbed, but becasue of that, the driver will not kill some innocent chessplayers :)

I think that Maid Marian would be enough to complete the party, but I see there is no place for her. Even if she would descend on the rope or sit on the roof it would be crowded.

@Mirre; giving you #2 since Irena says she won't alter the border.

More progress, the house is coming along pretty nicely! Remembered that the ground around it isn't supposed to be grassy though, so I want to try and turn that into dirt with some grass on the edges. I must say that I'm not familiar with drawing buildings but the guide I made previously has helped a lot.
Pretty great tiles thus far also!

@cjlm123 I made my tile connect perfectly with your last update. Added isometric circle for the sea and made a similar seamles pattern for the waves but in isometric. If you don't like it just make a smooth transition to yours but keep the isometry of it.

Gecimen I promise this is the last update of this tile :)

@cjlm123 Amazing!!! That island is just a amster's touch.

Veto accepted. Thought to keep blues only for the roof, but it looks a lot better - especially with yellow sky.

I also smoothed out the waterfall edge as yours.

Now at first I thought I need to balance out the composition with something, so added the koi jumping out of the water, but now it feels overcrowded, especially next to such peacefull, zen-like tile.

Try both and decide what looks betetr for the collab, becasue I got tired :)

Also, the transition between 84 and 92 was too obvious, so added few pixels here and there.

The number on the list, below the collab image is black, it is neighbouring finished tiles and, as I scrool, I can't find anyone asking for it recently, so I'm pretty sure you can reserve it. Wait for Gecimen or Irenaart for acceptance and start working ^^

I'm doing #93 right now and gonna have some water, but I'm planning to have the edge with #85 almost fully grass, maybe a rock.

The only limit is that you can't neighbour your tiles even diagonally, so eventually there will be a state when there are lots of free tiles but you can't take them :)

But if you asking about politeness, well, if you see there is a large interest in the collab but you are working much faster than others, so you are afraid that becasue of you someone will not be able to fullfill their collab aspirations, you can relax. I don't think it is possible, but even if so, there is this forum when we can just talk about it.

For instance, if at the end of the collab you will reserve your N'th tile, and someone will write "hey, i have made only one, and wish to make the second and have a cool idea, but the tile you reserved is the only one I'm allowed to do". You could then step down in good faith, and be polite.

The previous collab was pretty inactive most of the time, and I was able to make 19 tiles untill I was completely blocked. Still plenty of tiles left empty, and there was no situation when I blocked someone who wanted to participate. I belive (correct me), that before Planet ISO, Irena and Gecimen were ex aequo holding the record of 16 tiles.

I think that if you had a complete freedom to shoot tiles without anyone "interrupting" :), mathematically you could make 28 tiles max, which will still left 70 tiles for others.

Yes, the rules of the collab are simple but brilliantly thought through if you dive in such problems :)

Another update, I'm not sure I really like the wagon (and I couldn't get the wheel looking quite right), but I also didn't like how it looked without it there. I'm willing to call this one done though, unless there's anything I should be changing. I don't want to hold things up too much.

Thank you! The Skyrim section looks beautiful too.

I would propose two minior fixes:

1) The shadow of the retired adventurer is alright under the arm, but both shadows of the body and of the arrow in the knee are looking like he/she is sitting next to a wall. Try to use diagonal guideline to set where the shadow should fall on the ground. We shouldn't see most ot he shoulder shadow (would be behind the hip) and the arrow should be much more stretched on the ground (and the angle of that arrow shadow will be different than the arrow itself).

The shadow of the Dragonborn is much better. I would only move the sword shadow a bit to the left. Right now it suggests the lightsource directly above.

2) The Wheel is quite alright but if you have isometric wheel the axle of th3e wheels is isometric too. In my opinion it will look much better if you only move that bright end of the axle one pixel down.

And besides that everything is great. The characters are readable. The golden shield looks nice. and shiny. Maybe you could also add few purple pixels for the stone shadows?

@Drea; 85 is yours, have fun :)

@cjlm123; short answer: no there is no limit to how many tiles you can get. long answer; the only limits you gotta watch are:
* not having neighboring tiles to eachother
* not having multiple reservations at once (in other words passing to another tile before the previous is finished)
* and not making a lot of half-arsed tiles just for the sake of the score.

So as long as you keep your current level you can do as many tiles as you want.

Remember, we will never run out of tiles; if this collab is complete in a few months (which is unlikely but still possible) we will just start a new collab with a fresh theme and palette within 2-3 weeks. For everyone, including participants and viewers (and PJ collabs have way more fans than you'll ever know) more nicely crafted collabs are always better.

I would consider trying to compress the line art so it take less space. Right now it goes through 12 tiles, so you have to consider that this idea is forcing up to 12 artists to follow it, even if they might have completely different ideas, and also some people are not well with constructing architecture, or just don't like it that much and prefer to draw nature or characters. Also some tiles are totally covered by the bridge part only and give little to none space for someone else to realise themselves besides drawing what you indended. And the last thing, if your idea takes so many tiles it is less likely to get done as you planed, becasuse someone might take it to completely unpredictable direction, or just simply don't want to participate, and they have the right not to.

The multi arch bridge doesn't have to be that huge, especially if you compare it to the size of buildings we have, but if you really want to plan something really big it would be better to place it near edge tiles so less tiles and artists would be involved but the result might get even bigger.

In the planet ISO the biggest mini-collab (not by size but by participants count) was Dune sandworm. It took 5 different tiles by 5 difefrent artists.

Yeah, good points.
The same design could easily be reduced to 3 rather than 5 arches, however its just a sketch to suggest the idea -I can understand if people think it's too much to plan so far in advance and takes the spontaneity/randomness out of the collab as a whole.

Same idea with 2 and 3 arches:

PS: really excited to see what you're working on with 93

Yeah I would be down to join one tile, becasue I was thinking about arch bridge too :)

Also your tile looks superb already. I love the stone orbs, and the fallen off wheel? Maybe if the cart broke, one of the plague bodies could fall off ;)
