CHALLENGE: Snow GlobeCreate an image using the snow globe canvas shown below. Your image doesn't actually have to be a snow globe, if you don't want. The image is divided into two sections: the globe and the base. Each of these two sections must use a different set of colours. You can decide to split the colours however you want; for example, you could have 10 colours in both sections or 4 in one and 16 in the other.

So, we're not allowed to use transparency (apart from the outside border), right?

Question: 21 total or 21 for each grouping?
EDIT: Brainstorming I have 3 basic ideas I think.
Occurs to me that you could play on multiple of those (real image inside, reflected image on outside). Don't really have ideas for it not being a snowglobe or similar orb though; feels somehow less interesting to pull that out from under the theme. Edited by Bcadren - 22 December 2014 at 7:32am |

21 total. One of which is reserved for the transparency outside the canvas.

![]() Would love some feedback. It's "done" in that I've got everything I planned down, but I'm sure a fresh pair of eyes might see something that could be pushed further. I am thinking of making the foreground (the base) brighter rather than darker/duller than the background, but I'm afraid there'll be too much contrast in unimportant areas if I do. I'm also unsure about that sky. Edited by eishiya - 22 December 2014 at 8:32pm |

good job on harmonizing the colours, the image looks tied together really well. the only thing i can think of is the shading of the foreground trees, they could use some more shading, i think. you are at 19 colours right now, so you can add 2 more for that.

Does this follow the guidelines for the challenge? Also some feedback would be nice if I could get any. (I know that the hands need some work). @eishiya - It looks quite nice so far, I agree with Volrak about the foreground and how you could add another color to the trees. Well, the base should have a different colour to the demon's chest. Also, transparency.

Not digging the blatant mirroring on the face/mask. Mirroring can work well for smooth shapes, but with textures it becomes very obvious and artificial.
As for making it look like crystal, I think just having some light highlights on the glass that curve with its shape would do. You can reuse some of your existing colours for antialiasing, and perhaps add a light grey (grey would save you the trouble of needing both a light green and a light red) for further blending. |
