Hi. I recently made this: . It might have a white background, but that's becuase of the anti-aliasing. The thing is: Why isn't it accepted?

Take the AA off around the outside, it looks fine without it. Also the hips are a little incorrect, they're too slanted and maybe to big. You might want to change around the right leg (your left) and have the toes touching but the foot bent upwards, so it doesnt look like she has no ankle. If you wanted to do something with the left arm, you could have it coming out and bent to where she has it on her hip, just to add more.

Hope some part of that helps.

Well, I like her hip size but I don't think there's definitely something wrong with the proportion of her body parts as to their location. I think her chest is a bit higher than usual and her legs are kind of at a very weird angle.

Any chance that it will be fine without anatomy corrections?

You should just remove the white background, in my opinion. In most places the AA only blurs when it should smoothen things out, so I don't think it really adds much to the piece.

your aa is wrong.  It's not just about putting a lighter shade outside to blur things,  like..  her right inner thigh - thats a clean line, so you don't need any aa at all.  Also the 45degree angles of her hips - those are clean as well and dont need any aa.

I'll make a little edit for you to show when AA is appropriate.
One thing you should know is that you shouldn't put AA on the outside unless you have a background with real substance (and it's not animated) because putting a white background just because there's aa is pointless.. cause you can just get rid of the aa and not have the ugly white bg.

Anyway, I'll get  on that edit..

you have some weird colors in there..  your shading should be a tad cleaner i think, cause some of it makes no sense.. the outline especially..

reduced the size of the torso, change the shape of the hips a bit in the rigth part(those where imposible), and other issues marked with red.

still, the head's shape doesn't convince me for some reason.

Thanks guys.

Note to self: save to PNG first and THEN make it transparent. For some reason GraphicsGale doesn't make it transparent if you use GAL first.

EDIT: WTF? Transparency doesn't work! Someone help me, what program should I use? Should I use GIF?

Looks better.
There's a program for making pics transparent in the  FAQ: http://pixeljoint.com/pixels/faqs.asp#faq1287

Hmm, I'm not sure but I don't think PNG files can be transparent.
Why do you want to use PNG? Just use GIF...

ehm, remember, if your're using Internet Explorer, your PNG's alpha channel(transparency) will be replaced with a solid color. IE doesn't support PNG's.

Besides, i doesn't make difference(with this image) if you use PNG or GIF, so i'll suggest you to always save your pixels in GIF(unless you're using MS Paint)

so my edit was ignored?

PNGs have a 32 bit transparency channel, meaning each pixel can have its own alpha value. IE 6 doesn't render that, but IE 7 does.

I know GIMP can do it, but I'm too afraid it will AA it.

Actually Doc, the transparancy channel itself is 8 bit, as it's simply a greyscale image with brightnesses ranging from 0 to 255 ;)
But yes, Internet Explorer does indeed support PNG's alpha channels as of version 7.

I doubt that the file type is your main concern right now.

I still don't think that this is a gallery-quality piece.  Her head is misshapen, and the hair looks like a piece of solid material.
She has no knees or elbows, and I still can't understand most of the shading (thats why i never finished that edit.. it just seems to random..especially on the foot.)

And, need I say again, the feet are pointed the wrong way for a human being. How long would it take you to fix feet that small? 10 minutes?

I tried, I tried. Why are half of the people picky about 4 little pixels and others say it's alright? It's more the matter of getting accepted now for me than anything else.

It should be about improving and growing as an artist, but hey... that could just be me (and the rest of the people on the gallery)
It's your art, and if you're satisfied by just getting accepted, meaning meeting the absolute minimum quality requirements, then you know best.

Why can't you spend 5 minutes just shifting the woman's pose? If it makes it look better, wouldn't that be better for you anyway?

C'mon dude. Give me a break. If it's just 4 pixels, why are you making such a whining about changing it? You want it to be accepted? Make it good. You want to make it good? Make her look anatomically correct and not like her feet are twisted in awkward positions.

This isn't rocket science, for pete's sake. It's pixel art.

You both made my point and made me scream "Well then do it yourself!"

Anyone that wonders about the shading: It's pretty basic. Standard 3 color (Medium, Dark, Highlight) with some smoothing and round stuff.

why would anyone other than you have to do it?  wtf.

Anyway, this is pretty pointless, I'll refrain from giving any more advice.
In the end - this pixel is not good enough and you've failed to improve it in the last 4 days.  If you're so convinced that everyone around you is wrong, then I'm sorry, you will have no place in the gallery.

I did not somehow say that anyone else was wrong.

Let's get this straight: I try to improve it but nobody has told me how since my last update. And with "telling me how" I mean giving a picture or more precise instructions.

They've given you more instructions than necessary.

LOOK AT A PICTURE OF A PERSON STANDING IN THAT POSE.

It's really not that difficult. I can tell this is going to be another Jens. Take this as a lesson in the art world. Unlike kindergarten, no one is going to do your work for you. Do it yourself.

Yes, I followed what he drew exactly, but I couldn't find anything else he marked or atleast how to fix it.
Those red lines have one major drawback: You can't see what's supposed to be added or removed.

i dont think i could possibly make it any simpler.

you have ovioius anatomal issues.

-your hips are lumpy and misshapen
-your head is deformed and squished.
-your legs stretch to much, and are rather fat.
-the bra shes wearing is to high up, and needs to be lowered.
-the arms you have are like tubes, and have no muscle structure.

also
-you have waaay to many colors.
-dont AA into a white background if you are going to make it transparent
-your colors need to have a unified saturation.  right now, they are all over the place
-you need to increase the contrast in each of the colors.  you could get away with 4 skin tones, 3 for the top, and 3 for the hair.  right now you have at least 5 in each.

lastly, keep in mind that the female body is a work of art.  it has curves.  not lumps.

Well obviously someone's going to post because you're asking me a question, genius.

I don't have the urge to post in every topic. But since crits bug you so much I can see why you might not be too happy about it.

And why do I assume? Because, you didn't seem to apt to improve it when someone spent the time to do edits you whinged and whinged that no one was doing for your already overdone pose/peice. You said "who knows?" and "whenever I feel like it" and, when last I checked, those weren't synonyms for "soon" or "asap".

Sorry for the double post, the edit button malfunctioned and hang.

I know that the arm looks wrong... But I don't know how to alter it. I checked the position and it's correct I think.

She has two right arms or she's holding the gun in a very peculiar way. We expect to see her digits curled around the grip, but what we currently see is the back of the hand, which suggests that her arm is twisted so her hand is upside down (in a "thumbs down" sort of pose). No one would hold a gun like that. In fact, it's impossible for most people.

Also, you seem to have extended the other limb (the one on our left). It looks too long to me.

EDIT: This post came off sounding awfully authoritative. Please don't mistake me for any kind of expert But I am pretty darn confident about the problem with the hand holding the gun. Best of luck with this piece.

The skin tones are still not very good and your method of shading makes her look more like plastic than a person. She shouldn't have such bright highlights on her body.

Her head is also still flat and none of the features that should pop out when you see her face do.

Also, where is the light source?

That's the entire damn thing! I edited al of them! And nobody ever commented on my shading before Aleiav!

The lightsource is on the left top. And, if I can't use highlights, how can I make the face not flat? (It's not flat, it's heavily shaded)

You really need to take a chill pill and stop getting so angry, dude.

The head is flat because it's shaped flat. It looks like she's a looney tune and someone dropped a boulder on her head.
